Position Overview

Environmental 360 Solutions is seeking a Corporate Counsel with a strong litigation background to join our in-house legal team. This role combines responsibility for litigation and dispute resolution with a broad range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters across our operations.

Working closely with business leaders and external counsel, the Corporate Counsel will assess legal risk, develop practical solutions, and support informed business decisions. The successful candidate will bring sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation and Dispute Resolution

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial, contractual, employment, property damage, motor vehicle and fleet, and regulatory disputes.
  • Assess legal exposure, develop litigation strategies, and provide recommendations and reporting to senior leadership and key investor stakeholders.
  • Select, instruct, and oversee external counsel, including managing budgets, costs, and file progress.
  • Handle pre-litigation disputes, demand letters, settlement negotiations, and mediation.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory inspections, orders, and enforcement proceedings involving environmental and occupational health and safety matters.
  • Oversee document preservation, litigation holds, and discovery, working with internal stakeholders to gather relevant information.

Corporate and Commercial

  • Draft, review, and negotiate customer, municipal, procurement, vendor, equipment, and fleet agreements.
  • Provide practical legal advice on commercial and operational matters, helping business teams identify risks and evaluate options.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including board and shareholder materials, resolutions, and minute book maintenance.
  • Advise on environmental compliance, health and safety, employment, and privacy matters, engaging external specialists as needed.
  • Develop and improve legal templates, processes, and tools to support consistency and business growth.

Qualifications

  • Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and current membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • A minimum of four years of post-call experience gained in private practice, in-house, or a combination of both.
  • Demonstrated civil or commercial litigation experience, including managing matters through resolution.
  • Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Sound business judgment and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple files, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business priorities.
  • A collaborative approach, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to learn across different areas of law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the organization.

Preferred Assets

  • Experience in environmental services, waste management, transportation, infrastructure, or another regulated industry.
  • U.S. legal qualifications or experience advising on U.S. legal matters.
  • French language proficiency.
