As the reviewing chemist, you will confirm that the data, quality controls and conclusions in each report are sound before it is issued to our clients, mostly electronics manufacturers verifying compliance with RoHS, REACH, PFAS and other substance regulations.
This position suits an experienced chemist looking for a flexible part-time role or consulting mandate, including semi-retired chemists or those seeking a complementary mandate.
Responsibilities- Review raw data, chromatograms, calculations and quality-control results (GC-MS, XRF, UV-Vis).
- Approve and sign test reports as a member of the OCQ.
- Validate the interpretation of results against applicable regulatory limits (e.g., RoHS, REACH, PFAS).
- Investigate abnormal results, QC failures or analytical issues, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the laboratory technician on methods, sample preparation and complex cases.
- Review and approve analytical methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the laboratory’s quality practices.
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des chimistes du Québec (OCQ).
- Degree in chemistry or a closely related field.
- Experience in analytical chemistry, ideally with GC-MS.
- Experience reviewing and validating analytical data, QC results and technical reports.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to exercise independent technical judgment.
- Experience in a laboratory operating under a quality system (ISO/IEC 17025, GMP or GLP).
- Experience with Bruker GC-MS systems.
- Familiarity with XRF and UV-Vis spectroscopy.
- Ability to work independently in a flexible part-time or consulting arrangement.
- Experience with pyrolysis GC-MS and polymer or material analysis.
- Familiarity with IEC 62321, RoHS testing and product environmental compliance.
- Bilingualism in English and French.
