Senior Sales Manager – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

About the Role

Envision Energy is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Sales Manager – BESS to accelerate the growth of its energy storage business in Canada.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing utility-scale battery energy storage opportunities, establishing strategic relationships with key market participants, and driving the full sales cycle from initial customer engagement through technical and commercial negotiations to contract execution.

This role requires a strong understanding of the Canadian energy storage market, an established network across developers, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), utilities and EPC contractors, and a proven ability to convert complex, large-scale opportunities into commercially successful projects.

The position will work closely with Envision's regional and global technical, engineering, commercial and delivery teams to develop competitive and bankable BESS solutions tailored to customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Market Expansion

  • Lead the development and execution of Envision's BESS sales strategy in Canada, identifying and pursuing utility-scale energy storage opportunities.
  • Originate new business opportunities and develop a strong pipeline of qualified projects with developers, IPPs, utilities, EPC contractors and other strategic customers.
  • Establish and maintain senior-level relationships with key decision-makers, positioning Envision as a preferred BESS technology and solutions partner.
  • Identify opportunities arising from provincial procurement programmes, utility tenders, capacity markets, renewable energy integration and grid flexibility requirements.
  • Monitor market developments, competitive positioning, regulatory changes and emerging business models to inform commercial strategy.

2. End-to-End Project Sales & Commercial Execution

  • Take ownership of the complete BESS sales cycle, from initial opportunity identification and qualification through technical solution development, tender submission, commercial negotiation and contract signing.
  • Lead customer discussions to understand project requirements, commercial objectives, technical specifications and delivery expectations.
  • Coordinate the preparation of competitive technical and commercial proposals, working closely with engineering, product, finance and legal teams.
  • Lead commercial negotiations covering pricing, scope of supply, performance guarantees, warranties, delivery schedules, liquidated damages and contractual risk allocation.
  • Drive opportunities through internal approval processes and ensure alignment between commercial commitments and project execution capabilities.
  • Achieve agreed sales targets, including order intake, contract value, project conversion and customer development objectives.

3. BESS Solutions & Technical Collaboration

  • Work closely with technical and solutions engineering teams to develop BESS configurations aligned with customer requirements and project economics.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of utility-scale BESS architecture, including battery systems, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), controls and grid integration.
  • Support customer discussions around system sizing, energy capacity, duration, efficiency, degradation, availability and performance guarantees.
  • Understand key technical and commercial considerations relating to grid connection, grid codes, system integration and project bankability.
  • Translate customer requirements into commercially competitive solutions while ensuring technical feasibility and appropriate risk management.

4. Strategic Account & Stakeholder Management

  • Build long-term partnerships with Canadian energy storage developers, IPPs, utilities, EPC contractors and other key market participants.
  • Develop strategic account plans and identify opportunities for repeat business and long-term commercial relationships.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including engineering consultants, grid specialists, financial institutions and project partners, where relevant to project development and execution.
  • Represent Envision at industry conferences, customer meetings and relevant energy storage events.
  • Maintain visibility of customer investment plans, project development pipelines and procurement timelines.

5. Contract Delivery & Risk Management

  • Work with internal legal, engineering, supply chain and project delivery teams to ensure that contractual commitments are commercially and technically executable.
  • Identify and proactively manage risks relating to project schedules, grid connection, technical performance, warranty obligations and contractual liabilities.
  • Ensure effective handover of awarded projects to the execution and delivery teams.
  • Maintain customer relationships throughout project execution to support successful delivery and future business opportunities.

Requirements

Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • 8–12+ years of relevant sales experience, ideally including significant exposure to the Canadian or North American energy sector.
  • Proven track record in B2B project sales, business development or key account management within utility-scale BESS, energy storage, power equipment or related energy infrastructure sectors.
  • Direct experience selling utility-scale BESS solutions is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in originating opportunities, managing complex sales cycles and negotiating high-value equipment supply or project contracts.
  • Established relationships with Canadian developers, IPPs, utilities and/or EPC contractors, with the ability to access senior decision-makers.
  • Experience working with international technology manufacturers or energy equipment suppliers is advantageous.

Technical & Commercial Competencies

  • Strong understanding of the utility-scale energy storage market, including project development, procurement processes and commercial drivers.
  • Working knowledge of BESS technologies, including battery systems, PCS, EMS, system integration and grid connection requirements.
