Original job description
Senior Financial Analyst, Commercial Finance (Confidential Client)
North York | Full-time, Permanent, On-site
The role
Envy Consulting has been engaged by a global consumer products company to hire a Senior Financial Analyst for its Canadian head office. The company’s brands are household names sold through every major retailer in the country, and its Canadian finance team is adding this role to go deeper on commercial performance. This is not a close-the-books seat. The team already has people doing budgets, forecasts and reporting. This role was created so someone could spend their time on the question that matters to the business: which products, customers and channels make money, which don’t, and what to do about it. You will report to a newly promoted Commercial Finance Manager and work day to day with the heads of Sales, Marketing and Channel Marketing.
What you’ll own
- Profitability analysis at the product and category level: revenue, gross margin and EBIT
- Pricing and product-mix recommendations, with the numbers to back them up
- The financial case behind commercial decisions: promotions, listings, inventory and distribution trade-offs
- Presenting findings to senior leadership and turning analysis into decisions people act on
- Support for the forecast and planning cycle as it relates to the commercial business
Who this suits
- An experienced Financial Analyst ready for a senior title, or an established SFA who wants more commercial exposure. Both are welcome.
- 3 or more years in finance, ideally at a consumer products, CPG or retail-facing company
- Experience supporting a sales or marketing team, or in pricing, profitability or sales finance
- CPA or CPA in progress is an asset, not a requirement. The job is judged on business impact.
- Strong Excel and modelling skills; SAP or Hyperion experience helps
- You can explain a margin problem to a sales manager in two minutes and leave the room with a decision. This matters more than any line on your resume.
- Curious about products, customers, retail pricing and competitors, and willing to walk over to Marketing rather than wait for an email
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary up to $100,000, depending on experience
- Annual bonus with a 20% target
- Employer RRSP contribution of 6%
- 3 weeks’ vacation plus 2 floating days
- Extended health and dental coverage
- $500 annual wellness allowance
- Employee product purchase program
Why people stay
Reasonable hours and real work-life balance; the hiring manager has not worked a weekend in five years. An open-door culture where analysts talk directly to general managers and senior executives. Finance, Sales and Marketing that work together rather than around each other. A clear promotion path: the manager you’ll report to was promoted from this team.
