Overview

Lakehead University's Thunder Bay Campus invites applications for a Knowledge Mobilization Specialist to join the EPID@Work Research Institute.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and supportive research environment with opportunities to work alongside leading researchers, community partners, and decision-makers across Northwestern Ontario and beyond.

In this role, you will help bridge the gap between research and practice by developing, executing, and maintaining internal and external communications. Operating from a stakeholder, research, and brand perspective, you will align all knowledge mobilization activities with EPID@Work's strategic goals and industry best practices.

This is a full-time position supported by ongoing institute grant funding and active, multi-year research programs, providing a stable and collaborative environment for professional growth.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize persuasive writing and research skills to design targeted knowledge mobilization strategies for individual research projects and institute-wide initiatives, working directly with grant holders and researchers to build tailored plans.
  • Create compelling, accessible content across print, digital, social media, websites, annual reports, and event materials to enhance institutional visibility and impact.
  • Maintain consistent brand messaging across all communication channels to strengthen the Institute's profile and impact.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and implement new hardware, software, and research methodologies to continuously refine research protocols.
  • Identify opportunities for research funding and strategic collaboration, drafting funding proposals, grant applications, and partnership agreements.
  • Act as a primary liaison with internal and external researchers, university colleagues, community partners, and industry collaborators, presenting research findings at academic and industry conferences.
  • Plan and execute signature institute events, such as the EPID Talks Seminar Series and annual conferences, fostering engagement across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Provide guidance, day-to-day coordination, and support to research staff, communications personnel, junior researchers, and undergraduate/graduate students.
  • Balance multiple high-priority research and communication deliverables simultaneously, meeting tight internal and external deadlines with exceptional attention to detail.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in communications, knowledge translation, or media relations.
  • Proven experience writing and developing content across diverse media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media accounts is considered a strong asset.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, a strategic and creative mindset, and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with researchers, community partners, and leadership.
