Location: Toronto / 4 days a week on site

, F2F interview required

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer / Technical Lead to design and deliver secure, scalable, and high-volume banking and payment applications. The role will lead the development of Java and Spring Boot microservices, REST APIs, event-driven services, batch-processing capabilities, and containerized workloads across cloud and enterprise platforms.

The selected candidate will provide technical leadership across solution design, application development, code quality, testing, releases, production support, and engineering-team coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop Java and Spring Boot microservices for banking, payments, alerts, account servicing, and customer-facing platforms.

Build secure RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations using Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, or JMS.

Develop high-volume, low-latency, and resilient distributed services.

Design batch and sub-batch processing for large datasets, including failure handling and recoverability.

Implement data archival, restoration, synchronization, and migration capabilities.

Design and optimize MongoDB and relational-database collections, schemas, indexes, and queries.

Lead technical design, low-level design, development, testing, release, and production-support activities.

Provide technical direction, code reviews, development standards, and mentoring to engineering teams.

Migrate applications to OpenShift and Kubernetes-based container platforms.

Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Harness, GitHub, Maven, Gradle, and artifact repositories.

Implement OAuth 2.0, TLS, encryption, and API-security controls.

Develop automated tests using JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, Selenium, JMeter, Gatling, WireMock, or comparable tools.

Build dashboards and operational alerts using Splunk, Kibana, AppDynamics, Instana, or Datadog.

Troubleshoot production issues by analyzing application logs, performance metrics, event flows, and database behavior.

Collaborate with product owners, architects, QA, database, security, and DevOps teams.

Drive application resiliency, performance improvement, cloud adoption, and engineering automation.

Required Skills

Advanced Java and J2EE development experience.

Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Batch, and REST APIs.

Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture.

Hands-on experience with Kafka and at least one enterprise messaging technology.

Strong experience with MongoDB and relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL.

Experience deploying applications to OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS, or comparable cloud platforms.

Strong understanding of API security, OAuth 2.0, TLS, and encryption.

Experience with Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, GitHub, SonarQube, and CI/CD.

Experience with automated unit, integration, behavioural, and performance testing.

Production-support experience using enterprise monitoring and logging tools.

Proven ability to lead technical delivery and coordinate engineering activities.

Preferred Skills

Banking, payments, cards, digital wallets, alerts, or account-servicing experience.

Experience with Cassandra, MariaDB, or other NoSQL platforms.

Experience with Apigee or another API-management platform.

Familiarity with AWS, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, or Google Cloud.

Knowledge of Autosys and enterprise batch scheduling.

AWS certification or another relevant cloud certification.

Experience using AI-assisted software-development tools.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
