Original job description

Join a Challenger

At EQ, we're remaking banking so every Canadian gets ahead, every day. Serving nearly 4 million Canadians from coast to coast, we offer a wide variety of financial services from banking and lending, to trust and credit union solutions.

We've been at this since 1970, challenging the conventions of traditional banking with smarter, faster, and more connected financial experiences.

What's kept us moving? The people behind it all: challengers who ask better questions, push back on old assumptions, and look for a better way forward.

If you're driven to help reshape how banking works for Canadians and the businesses that power our economy, this could be your next big opportunity.

We can’t wait to get to know you!

Work Term: January - August 2027

Ready to shape the future of banking?

Join the purpose-driven, tech-forward team at Equitable Bank where your ideas matter and your growth is accelerated. We’re not just another bank - we’re Canada’s Challenger Bank™, lean, agile, and built for the digital age. If you’re passionate about challenging the status quo, driving meaningful change, and gaining hands-on experience in digital financial services, our Engineering Internship Program is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!

Starting in January 2027, you’ll begin your journey as a Software Engineer Intern through our Engineering Graduate Program, designed to accelerate your development through immersive, hands-on experience within Digital Banking.

At EQ Bank, we’re building the future of banking in Canada, and we want you to be part of it! Our teams work in agile, cross-functional pods where collaboration, creativity, and innovation drive everything we do. We put customers at the heart of every decision, using research, data, and feedback to create products that truly make an impact.

We’re not just building software, we’re reimagining banking. If you’re passionate about solving real-world problems, learning from experienced engineers, and working in a supportive, dynamic environment, this program is for you!

The Core Responsibilities Of The Job

Over the course of this 8-month term, you’ll have the opportunity to work with frontend and backend tools and projects.
Your responsibilities will include:

Backend

Assess and clarify user experience and requirements to deliver customer-centric solutions.
Analyze functional requirements and provide technical solutions, including API designs and Microservice architecture.
Develop and support RESTful/SOAP APIs and Microservice applications.
Participate in SCRUM meetings to ensure smooth Sprint delivery and issue resolution.
Conduct unit testing and assist with automated testing where applicable.
Participate in code reviews and manage merge requests for various release branches.
Collaborate with incident management teams to troubleshoot and resolve production incidents.
Contribute to technical documentation and assist with ongoing application support

Frontend

Design and develop user interfaces following modern best practices and technologies (e.g., Angular, Java/Kotlin for Android, SwiftUI for iOS).
Write clean, maintainable, and performant code using the relevant programming languages and frameworks for web and mobile platforms.
Make key technical and design decisions to ensure effective and efficient user interfaces.
Develop and integrate frontend applications with RESTful APIs and GraphQL.
Collaborate with senior developers to implement performant, scalable solutions for both web and mobile platforms.
Provide application support and perform code reviews to maintain quality standards
