Job Summary

Reporting to the Health, Safety, Security Training Manager, the Training Superintendent leads the site's training function and is accountable for the strategy, governance, delivery, and continuous improvement of training across mine, process plant, maintenance, and support operations. The role leads the training team and ensures employees and contractors possess the knowledge, qualifications, and demonstrated competencies required to work safely and effectively.

This position is based at the mine site in Geraldton, Ontario, on a 14 days on and 14 days off rotation.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute the site training strategy, annual training plan, and priorities aligned with operational requirements and business objectives.
Lead, coach, and manage the training team, including workload planning, performance expectations, development, and resource requirements.
Establish training objectives, performance measures, and reporting to monitor completion, compliance, competency, and program effectiveness.
Manage the training budget, external service providers, and funding opportunities, including records management and funding claims.
Advise site leadership on training risks, capability gaps, resource requirements, and corrective actions.
Develop, approve, and maintain the training management system, policies, standards, procedures, and records.
Ensure compliance of training programs with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and site procedures.
Oversee training needs analyses, role-based learning requirements, competency standards, and qualification pathways.
Maintain reliable training records and controls supporting regulatory inspections and internal and external audits.
Represent the site training function during inspections and audits and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Oversee onboarding, mandatory training, operational qualifications, refresher training, and contractor training requirements.
Evaluate training effectiveness through field verification, performance data, incident findings, audit results, and participant feedback.
Partner with operational leaders to address capability gaps and improve safe work performance.
Build and maintain effective relationships with employees, contractors, regulators, training providers, government agencies, and Indigenous communities.
Represent the training function in workforce development, site planning, and organizational change initiatives.

Required Experience & Skill Set

8+ years of training, operational, or related experience, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.
5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience with responsibility for people, programs, and budgets.
Experience supporting mining operations in an open-pit mine or process plant environment is preferred.
Experience supporting regulatory inspections, audits, training records, and corrective-action management is preferred.
Strong leadership, coaching, communication, facilitation, and relationship-management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, competency-based training, training management systems, and applicable Ontario employment, occupational health and safety, and mining training requirements.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret training data, identify risks, manage competing priorities, and provide recommendations to senior leaders.
High standards of integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and learning management systems.

Job Conditions

This position is primarily site-based, with a work rotation structured to accommodate both employee and employer needs.

Education

Post-secondary education in adult education, training and development, human resources, occupational health and safety, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
