Original job description

At Equitable, we believe work should be a place where you feel supported, inspired, and empowered to grow. In our caring and collaborative environment, your curiosity is encouraged, your passion is recognized, and your contributions truly matter. Together, we create meaningful impact, for our clients, our communities, and each other.

The Opportunity:  At Equitable, we believe great things happen when we work together. We’re a Canadian mutual company driven by purpose - putting people first and helping Canadians protect today and prepare for tomorrow. If you’re passionate about making a difference and growing your career in an inclusive and collaborative environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Our culture is built on care, passion and curiosity. We put people above all else, strive to be our best and welcome new ideas to deliver positive outcomes.

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of digital experiences for Individual Wealth, creating experiences that respond to the distinct needs of clients and advisors. As a UX Designer, you will collaborate across business, product and technology teams to understand user needs, solve complex problems, and create intuitive, accessible and engaging digital experiences.

You will take experiences from discovery and research through concept, design, testing, and refinement. You will translate user insights, business requirements and technical considerations into client journeys, user flows, wireframes, prototypes and polished designs, using research and usability testing to continuously improve the experience.

We are looking for someone who brings together creativity, empathy, and strong UX expertise. You are naturally curious, collaborative, and comfortable influencing across teams. You can balance user, business, and technology needs while maintaining a strong focus on simplicity, consistency, and the quality of the overall client experience.

Join one of the region’s top employers and be part of something that truly makes a difference.

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

What you’ll do:

Turn complex needs into simple, intuitive digital experiences.
Lead UX design from discovery and concept through testing and delivery.
Conduct user research to understand client and advisor needs, behaviours and pain points.
Create user journeys, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
Test designs with users and use feedback and insights to improve the experience.
Design accessible and inclusive experiences that meet accessibility standards.
Apply responsive design practices across desktop, tablet and mobile experiences.
Partner with Product, Technology and business teams to deliver effective solutions.
Work closely with Agile teams to ensure the delivered experience reflects the design intent.
Use data, analytics, and user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
Champion user needs and brings a user-centred perspective to decisions.
Collaborate across business areas to create consistent digital experiences.
Stay current with UX, accessibility and digital trends and bring new ideas forward.

What you’ll bring:

Three or more years of experience in UX, digital or product design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating responsive digital experiences.
Strong visual design fundamentals with experience in interaction design, mobile-first and responsive web design.
Expertise in standard UX software such as Figma, Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like is a must. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.
Strong understanding of digital accessibility and inclusive design practices, with experience using accessibility testing tools such as Axe.
Strong understanding of user-centred design practices, including user research, usability testing, prototyping, and design validation.
Ability to translate business, brand and user requirements into simple, engaging and scalable digital experiences.
Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and provide UX guidance to designers and business partners.
Curiosity and passion for digital design, emerging technologies, and continually improving user experience.
Experience working within Agile teams and ways of working.

What’s in it for you:

Career Growth: Regular learning sessions and development opportunities
Total Rewards: Incentive pay, annual salary reviews, employer-paid benefits and pension matching
Time Away: Competitive vacation plus one paid volunteer day each year
