About this opportunity:

Lead the Downlink Physical Layer (DL PHY) product for Ericsson’s RAN portfolio. You will join a 15-person team with end-to-end ownership of DL PHY domain and guide a wider community of hundreds of developers contributing to DL PHY. Over the next few years, your primary mission is to transform workflow with AI, deliver L1 for 6G while executing a structured transfer of 5G responsibilities to another organization without disrupting quality or delivery. You’ll thrive if you enjoy coaching technical leaders and driving the quality of a real-time software product. We may use AI tools to assist with screening and assessment; hiring decisions are made by humans.

What you will do:

Own DL PHY strategy, roadmap, and execution aligned to 6G RAN evolution
Collaborate with DL PHY community in other organizations
Coach and scale technical leaders; build durable leadership
Drive quality and reliability in real-time, hardware-close software
Accelerate AI-assisted engineering in planning, coding, verification, CI, and triage
Ensure a smooth transfer of 5G responsibilities
Deliver the first 6G L1 implementation while safeguarding DL PHY quality and performance

Success milestones and impact:

3 months: Maintain strong DL PHY quality and delivery; accelerate AI transformation
6 months: Fully transform DL PHY engineering workflows with AI
12 months: Sustain or improve DL PHY quality with measurable productivity gains; deliver first 6G L1 implementation

The skills you bring:

Leadership experience in R&D (e.g., First Line Manager, team lead, technical coordinator, OPO, or project manager)
Strong embedded software background (C/C++ for real-time/embedded systems)
Knowledge of Radio Access Network and Layer 1 / Physical Layer concepts
Experience with real-time or hardware-close software
Excellent communication skills; ability to align and motivate technical teams at scale
Interest and capability in using AI tools and methods

Could be learned here:

Ericsson-specific processes and governance
6G standards maturation and feature readiness
DL PHY toolchains and CI/CD at Ericsson
Advanced AI/ML-for-software practices in RAN L1

Your Pay
The salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.

The salary range for this position is

• Ottawa: $136,000CAD - $178,500CAD

Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan: Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit’s objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

Ericsson offers excellent health benefits including the choice of 3 medical and dental plan options that allow an employee to select the level of coverage that suits their needs. Core level coverage is paid for fully by Ericsson.

Your Financial Security
We invest in both your short and long-term financial wellbeing. Ericsson’s Group Retirement & Savings Program offers an automatic 2% company contribution into the Pension Plan. Ericsson also offers a 50% match of employee’s contribution into the Registered Retirement Savings Plan, up to 8% of the employee’s contribution (maximum of 4% match). This leads to a total company contribution potential of 6%. Employees will also basic life insurance and basic accidental death and dismemberment coverage at two-times annual base pay at no cost, as well as short-term disability coverage. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson’s Stock Purchase Plan.

Your Time
Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 18 days of accrued vacation, at least 3personal days, minimum 10 holidays, 1 volunteer day, and sick days. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee’s start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 10 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
