About EMG

Ethereal Music Group (EMG) is a music company building products around artist growth, audience connection, music marketing, and consumer listening experiences.

Our technology work spans three connected areas:

· Dreamwell - a consumer mobile app focused on sleep music and healthier sleep routines.

· Pulse - a campaign orchestration platform used to launch, manage, and analyze music marketing campaigns.

· 7CULT - our record label, where we build internal tools and experiments for scouting, promotion, and artist growth.

We are a small team working on real products with active users and revenue. Engineers have broad ownership, direct access to stakeholders, and meaningful influence over both implementation and product direction.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Mobile & Full Stack who can take a problem from an initial requirement through technical design, implementation, release, and production follow-up.

This is a full-stack product engineering role with a strong mobile focus. Production experience with both React Native and Ruby on Rails is required. Native iOS or Android experience is a strong plus.

Your initial focus will be Dreamwell’s React Native application and Rails API, with contributions to Pulse and 7CULT as priorities require.

We are looking for an experienced generalist who is comfortable moving between mobile, web, backend, integrations, and production debugging while bringing particular depth to mobile development.

You’ll join a small internal team working alongside external development partners. You should be comfortable entering unfamiliar codebases, investigating production behaviour, clarifying incomplete requirements, and shipping pragmatic improvements without requiring detailed implementation instructions.

What You’ll Do:

Own Mobile and Dreamwell Development

· Own meaningful features across Dreamwell’s React Native application, from technical design through App Store and Google Play release and production follow-up.

· Make supporting changes to the Ruby on Rails API when features require end-to-end ownership.

· Investigate mobile reliability and performance issues, including lifecycle behaviour, ANRs, memory consumption, battery usage, and audio playback.

· Improve subscription, entitlement, onboarding, sleep routine, and user insights experiences.

· Provide dependable mobile engineering coverage across the team.

Build Across Pulse and 7CULT

· Develop product features and internal tools using React, TypeScript, Python/FastAPI, and PostgreSQL.

· Build and maintain integrations with music, advertising, analytics, payment, and other third-party platforms.

· Improve campaign-launch reliability, background jobs, validation, access controls, and operational workflows.

· Turn validated product requirements into maintainable, production-ready solutions.

· Support rapid proof-of-concept work while leaving a clear path from experiment to supported product.

Own Delivery End to End

· Clarify technical assumptions and identify missing requirements before implementation.

· Make pragmatic technical decisions appropriate to the scale, risk, and expected lifetime of a solution.

· Write tests and documentation appropriate to the change.

· Open focused pull requests, respond to review feedback, and verify behaviour after release.

· Diagnose production issues using logs, monitoring, application data, and reproducible evidence.

· Improve engineering and delivery practices when recurring friction is slowing the team down.

How We Work

This role reports to the Head of Engineering and works closely with senior engineers, product management, external development partners, and stakeholders across music marketing, product, finance, and artist development.

Product priorities and business outcomes are agreed with the relevant stakeholders. Engineers own technical design and implementation within those priorities.

Because the team is small, engineers are expected to communicate clearly, surface risks early, and take responsibility for outcomes rather than considering the work finished when a pull request is merged.

You do not need prior experience with every technology listed above. React Native and Ruby on Rails experience are required for this role. For the rest of the stack, we care more about strong engineering fundamentals, demonstrated adaptability, and the ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar systems.

What We’re Looking For:

Required

· 5+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent evidence of senior-level engineering ownership.

· Production React Native experience building, releasing, and supporting mobile applications.

· Professional Ruby on Rails experience, including APIs, database migrations, testing, and production debugging.

· Strong TypeScript or JavaScript skills.

· Practical understanding of mobile application architecture, lifecycle behaviour, debugging, performance, and App Store or Google Play release processes.

· Full-stack product development experience, including modern web applications and supporting API or backend work.

· Experience owning features through implementation, testing, deployment, and production follow-up.

· Strong debugging skills and a systematic approach to ambiguous production problems.

· Clear written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical collaborators.

· Comfort taking ownership and working effectively in a small, fast-moving team.

Nice to Have

· Native iOS or Android development experience.

· Expo and React Native build and release tooling.

· Experience with mobile audio, background execution, push notifications, subscriptions, entitlement management, or deep linking.

· Python/FastAPI or comparable backend framework experience.

· Modern React web development experience.

· PostgreSQL or other relational database experience.

· AWS, Docker, CI/CD, observability, or infrastructure-as-code experience.

· Data engineering or analytics pipeline experience.

· Third-party API and webhook integrations.

· Experience with advertising, analytics, payments, music, media, or subscription products.

· Experience working alongside external development partners.
