Original job description
Toronto, ON (on site) | Relocation supported
We’re supporting a fast-growing launch vehicle company that is building out its manufacturing capability. They’re looking for a Head of Manufacturing to set up the factory and lead the team that turns their designs into flight-ready hardware.
The role
You’ll spend most of your first six months on the floor. In that time you’ll bring precision machining, large-format LPBF and DED, and automated welding in house, and keep production far enough ahead of design that changes don’t stall the programme. Longer term, you’ll scale the factory toward flight cadence and act as the gate on whether something can actually be built.
You’ll start with two direct reports. Over time the team will grow to cover manufacturing and M&P engineering, machining, welding, additive, test and supply chain.
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on experience setting up or running a small-scale manufacturing facility through prototype
- Real depth in CNC machining and welded metal assemblies
- People management experience with direct reports
- A new product introduction background. Launch is ideal, but aero engines, aerostructures, defence and F1 are all welcome
- Comfort working with ambiguity and limited infrastructure
More about this job
Responsibilities
Establish and lead the manufacturing facility, bringing precision machining, large-format LPBF and DED, and automated welding in-house while keeping production ahead of design changes. Scale the factory toward flight cadence, assess whether designs can be manufactured, and grow a team spanning manufacturing and M&P engineering, machining, welding, additive manufacturing, testing, and supply chain.
Requirements
Candidates should have hands-on experience setting up or running a small-scale manufacturing facility through prototype production, with deep expertise in CNC machining and welded metal assemblies. People management experience, a new product introduction background, and comfort working amid ambiguity and limited infrastructure are required; launch experience is ideal, while aerospace, defense, and Formula 1 backgrounds are also welcomed.
