As a Kafka Platform Admin/Kafka Developer, you will be part of the Platform Engineering & Integration Operations team supporting event-driven streaming and integration services. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of ownership, a practical troubleshooting mindset, and the drive to keep mission-critical data pipelines reliable, scalable, and highly available.

Role: Kafka Platform Administrator / Kafka Developer

Location: Calgary, AB

Work Model: 5 days in office

Duration: December 2026 – December 2027

What's the Job?

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Kafka platforms across on-premises, cloud, and Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) environments.
  • Manage Kafka clusters, brokers, topics, partitions, replication factors, retention policies, consumer groups, and access controls to support secure and dependable streaming.
  • Deploy, configure, and support Kafka components and services across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
  • Develop, configure, deploy, and maintain Kafka connectors using Kafka Connect, including creating new source/sink connectors and enhancing existing ones.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and provide L2/L3 production support - performing root cause analysis (RCA), implementing fixes, and driving preventive improvements.

What's Needed?

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in middleware, messaging platforms, streaming technologies, platform administration, or integration development, with strong hands-on Kafka experience.
  • Strong expertise in Apache Kafka administration and development across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka on Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA), including deployment, configuration, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience with Kafka Connect, including connector deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Datadog monitoring (dashboards, monitors, alerting, and incident troubleshooting) and strong operational documentation/runbook practices.

What's in it for me?

  • Work on high-impact event-driven integration solutions where reliability, scalability, and availability matter.
  • Own platform administration and connector lifecycle responsibilities across the full operational lifecycle - from deployment to production support.
  • Use modern monitoring and alerting practices with Datadog to proactively identify and resolve Kafka and connector issues.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, infrastructure teams, architects, security teams, and stakeholders to deliver secure streaming integrations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through RCA, preventive measures, and well-maintained operational documentation.
