The ideal candidate will have strong strategic communication skills, proven network architecture experience (not hands-on engineering), and deep WAN/telecom expertise that can translate current-state realities into future-state roadmaps and actionable design recommendations.
This is a full-time contract.
The duration of the contract is for 6 months with possibility of extension.
Work is hybrid in Toronto, ON.2, 3 days work from office.
What's the Job?
- Serve as the primary Network Architect for, designing future-state network solutions and guiding architectural direction across internal leadership, enterprise architects, cloud teams, and external vendors.
- Lead architecture and roadmap development for two major initiatives: One Network modernization and provincial medical imaging cloud transformation.
- Assess current-state environments and recommend strategic future-state designs, architectural standards, and design documents - without focusing on implementation or configuration work.
- Design secure, efficient connectivity strategies between healthcare facilities and cloud-hosted imaging solutions, ensuring performance and reliability for critical applications.
- Influence stakeholders through architecture discussions, challenge assumptions constructively, and present recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
What's Needed?
- 10+ years designing and operating large-scale enterprise and provider WAN environments, with proven Network Architecture experience (architecture vs. engineering/operations).
- Strong MPLS and WAN expertise, including experience with MPLS-based architectures (e.g., traffic engineering and QoS) and routing protocol fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS).
- Cloud networking architecture experience, including hybrid connectivity patterns between on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments (Azure and AWS), with hybrid cloud design knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality architecture diagrams and documentation, including standards, recommendations, and roadmaps.
- Experience applying modern security architecture concepts (SASE/Zero Trust) and designing secure hybrid network architectures, including enterprise firewall architecture and segmentation considerations.
What's in it for me?
- Opportunity to shape province-wide network modernization and cloud connectivity strategies for mission-critical healthcare data and medical imaging.
- A true architecture role where you can design future-state solutions, define roadmaps, and provide strategic recommendations rather than perform hands-on configuration.
- Work alongside enterprise and cloud architects, vendor architects, and service providers to align solutions with organizational and security requirements.
- Engagement with complex, real-world challenges - turning current-state gaps into practical, reusable architecture patterns that improve maintainability and efficiency.
- Fast start expectations: projects are already underway, and your expertise will be valued immediately.
