Application Monitoring Specialist (Dynatrace Administrator)

Contract: 12+ Months

Location: Mississauga, ON (Hybrid, 1-2 days onsite)

Overview

We are seeking an Application Monitoring Specialist with strong hands-on experience implementing and administering Dynatrace environments. This is a platform-focused role responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise monitoring solutions rather than simply consuming dashboards and alerts.

The successful candidate will have experience deploying Dynatrace components, configuring monitoring architecture, creating dashboards and alerting solutions, and administering monitoring platforms in complex production environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise monitoring solutions using Dynatrace.
• Deploy and configure Dynatrace OneAgents and ActiveGates.
• Create, manage, and optimize dashboards, alerts, events, and monitoring configurations.
• Review application and infrastructure architectures to recommend monitoring strategies and coverage.
• Conduct proactive platform health checks, monitoring reviews, and root cause analysis.
• Tune alerting thresholds and reduce event noise through filtering and correlation techniques.
• Install, configure, and maintain monitoring agents and platform integrations.
• Support disaster recovery testing and monitoring platform resiliency initiatives.
• Develop and maintain monitoring documentation, scripts, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, development, database, and support teams to improve observability and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Experience implementing and administering Dynatrace in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying Dynatrace OneAgents and ActiveGates.
• Strong understanding of Dynatrace architecture and monitoring data flows.
• Experience building dashboards, alerts, monitoring rules, and reporting solutions.
• Experience supporting and maintaining monitoring platforms.
• Knowledge of security, compliance, and sensitive data considerations within monitoring environments.
• Linux/Unix administration experience and comfort working from the command line.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Java, or PowerShell.
• Understanding of web infrastructure including web servers, application servers, and load balancers.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Grafana, Splunk, Kibana, Nagios, or other monitoring platforms.
• Cloud experience with Azure and/or AWS.
• Database knowledge including PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Understanding of infrastructure technologies including virtualization, networking, storage, and operating systems.

What We're Looking For

Candidates should be able to demonstrate direct experience:

• Implementing Dynatrace from setup through production.
• Deploying and managing OneAgents and ActiveGates.
• Designing monitoring architectures.
• Building dashboards and alerting solutions.
• Administering and maintaining enterprise Dynatrace environments.

Note: Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to using dashboards and alerts created by others, or performing L2 support activities, will not be a strong fit for this role. Hands-on platform implementation and administration experience is required.
