Explorance is looking for an experienced Director of Quality Assurance to lead our QA organization and shape how quality is embedded across our software development lifecycle.

In this leadership role, you will define and evolve our QA strategy, strengthen our approach to test automation, and build the practices, processes, and capabilities needed to deliver reliable, high-quality SaaS products at scale.

Working closely with Engineering, Product, and other technical leaders, you will have the opportunity to influence not only how we test software, but how we think about quality throughout the organization.

We're looking for a leader who combines strong technical depth with strategic thinking and people leadership. Someone who can set the vision while remaining close enough to the technology to challenge assumptions, guide technical decisions, and help teams continuously improve.

What you'll be responsible for

QA Strategy & Leadership

Define and execute the overall QA strategy, vision, and roadmap, aligned with Explorance's product and engineering objectives.
Establish quality standards, practices, and measurable outcomes across the software development lifecycle.
Partner closely with Engineering and Product leadership to embed quality throughout product development rather than treating testing as a final step.
Represent QA within leadership discussions and champion a strong culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Identify opportunities to evolve our QA organization, processes, technology, and operating model as our products scale.

Quality Engineering & Automation

Lead the evolution of our test automation strategy, with a strong focus on API and complex UI environments.
Define and maintain scalable automation standards, frameworks, and practices.
Evaluate and introduce tools and technologies that improve test coverage, reliability, speed, and efficiency.
Help teams determine the right balance between automated and manual testing based on risk, complexity, and business impact.
Drive continuous improvement of testing practices throughout the development and release lifecycle.

Technical Leadership

Bring strong knowledge of software engineering principles, architecture, testing methodologies, and modern development practices.
Participate in technical and architectural discussions, bringing a quality and testability perspective to engineering decisions.
Partner with Engineering teams to identify quality risks early and improve the testability and reliability of our applications.
Provide technical direction on complex testing challenges and help teams establish effective solutions.

Quality Operations

Develop and continuously improve QA processes, methodologies, metrics, and best practices.
Establish meaningful quality indicators and use data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure QA capacity and resources are aligned with product priorities and delivery requirements.
Oversee testing readiness and quality standards for software releases.
Support compliance and servicing requirements as they relate to software quality and testing.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead, develop, and grow a high-performing QA organization.
Establish clear expectations, goals, and accountability across the team.
Coach and mentor QA professionals, supporting both technical development and career growth.
Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, innovation, and continuous learning.
Regularly assess team capabilities and organizational needs to ensure the QA function remains effective and appropriately structured as the business evolves.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced QA leader who understands both the technical and organizational sides of software quality.

You should bring:

Significant experience in software quality assurance, quality engineering, or software testing, including experience in a senior QA leadership role.
Strong technical knowledge of software engineering and modern software development practices.
Demonstrated experience building or evolving QA strategies and operating models.
Strong experience with test automation, particularly for APIs and complex web applications.
Experience defining or scaling automation frameworks and testing practices.
Strong understanding of software development methodologies, testing strategies, and quality engineering best practices.
Experience leading and developing technical teams.
Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders across Engineering, Product, and other functions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical challenges into practical strategies and priorities.
Excellent communication and influencing skills.

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is an asset, but equivalent technical and leadership experience will also be considered.

Nice to have

Experience with any of the following would be an asset:

SaaS products and cloud-based software environments
Agile/Scrum development environments
Selenium or other modern test automation technologies
Jira
Spira
CI/CD pipelines and automated testing within deployment workflows
Performance, scalability, security, or reliability testing

Our workplace

This is a full-time, on-site leadership position based in our Montreal office.

We believe in the value of working together in person and have built an engaged and collaborative office environment. Candidates should therefore be located in Montreal or the surrounding area and be comfortable working from the office five days per week.
