Compensation Details:
- Business Development 17: Salaries typically range from $84,698 to $112,931 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive
- Business Development 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive
This competition will be used to fill current vacancies. It will also be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates for anticipated vacancies. Results may be used to staff vacancies arising over the next 12 months.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office three days per week.
- This role can be performed from our Community Hub in Toronto or Montreal

Team Overview:
The Partnerships Group develops and executes corporate and regional strategies with major Canadian and international financial institutions, financial Crown corporations and government partners to expand support for Canadian exporters. Working through a B2B model with the Canadian financial ecosystem, the team aligns EDC and partner priorities and develops scalable programs and solutions that financial institutions can deploy across their organizations. This is a strategic partnership role - not transactional sales.
The Partnerships Senior manager/Manager will support the partnerships strategy, build credibility with senior decision-makers and coordinate with internal teams around shared objectives. The ideal candidate understands how large financial institutions set strategy, manage risk and lending priorities, and make investment decisions, and can influence across complex organizations without formal authority.
Discipline Summary
- Creates business development opportunities in Canada with Financial Institutions for small, mid-market and large enterprise business segments across a spectrum of industry sectors
- Gathers and shares market intelligence across various sectors through external interactions with Partners and sector associations in support to the Partnership Strategy
- Supports with the implementation of strategic initiatives and influences the development of new opportunities and new services/products customized to clients' needs
- Leverages existing network, builds and maintains effective long-term relationships with portfolio of partners (i.e. Financial Institutions, Crown corporations, Pension Funds, Private & Non-Bank Financial Institutions)
What you will be doing:
Partnerships Manager (L17):
- Support in orchestrating virtual account teams composed of product, service and knowledge specialists who have shared responsibility for the implementation of BD and program level strategies.
- Support EDC's partnership portfolio by conducting research, including understanding of market needs, market intelligence and identification of new business opportunities in the financial ecosystem.
- Develop material and presentation to effectively communicate partnership strategy aligned with EDC's corporate Strategy. Prepare detailed business reports and presentations for the management team.
- Monitor and track the EDC's partnership portfolio performance against business targets and provide insights to the team and management to support business decision-making.
- Engage with partners or work closely with relationship leads to facilitate multi-faceted business engagements
- Develops plans for prospective and existing accounts, builds decision-maker relationships, collects feedback, and recommends changes
- Help the execution of cross-organization initiatives utilizing a project management mindset and by collaborating with EDC stakeholders to expand partnership new business opportunities.
- Communicate with Partners on business related updates such as reporting, program & product changes and monitoring, newsletter, etc.
- Consolidate and synthesize information to help drive business development strategies and achieve business objectives.
- Champion AI adoption across peer group by finding ways to improve processes and support the business
Partnerships Senior Manager (L18):
- Contribute to the partnerships strategy and develop and execute relationship plans for assigned financial-institution partners or region, working with Business Development, Credit, Product and Risk leaders to achieve regional goals and address barriers.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with assigned financial-institution partners, working with internal colleagues to understand partner priorities, identify opportunities, and deliver solutions that advance shared objectives.
- Identify partnership opportunities and work with internal teams to adapt and implement EDC programs, products, and delivery approaches that address partner needs and expand support for Canadian companies.
- Support and coordinate multi-party discussions and negotiations, working with internal specialists to understand partner needs, address EDC's risk parameters and advance mutually beneficial solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional account teams to establish shared objectives, contribute to KPIs and delivery plans, while fostering alignment across the national Partnerships team.
- Champion AI adoption across peer group by finding ways to improve processes and support the business.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in finance, commerce, business administration, international business or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in wholesale, institutional or corporate banking, financial-institution coverage, trade finance, investor relations or strategic B2B relationship management within financial services:
- Partnerships Manager / BD 17: 5 - 7 years of experience.
- Senior Partnerships Manager / BD 18: 7+ years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of financial-institution strategy, credit and lending practices, risk considerations and organizational decision-making.
- Established credibility with senior leaders in major Canadian financial institutions and the financial-services ecosystem. (L18)
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategy, develop and execute complex relationship plans, coordinate and support complex programs or negotiations, and influence internal and external stakeholders in a matrixed environment. (L18)
What will make you stand out:
- Strong understanding of EDC's mandate, value proposition and lines of business, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
- Experience contributing to the design and implementation of financial-institution programs, including joint objectives, KPIs and governance.
- Knowledge of international business, trade finance and the Canadian export ecosystem; a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation is an asset.
- Practical experience using AI tools to enhance market research, account planning and meeting preparation, combined with sound judgment in validating insights and protecting confidential information.
- Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
