Our work is grounded in the values we live every day: Respect, Resilience, Collaboration, Playfulness, and Self-Awareness.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant provides hands-on leadership of Families Matter’s financial operations, ensuring sound financial management, accurate reporting, and effective financial planning to support the organization’s programs and services. The role ensures information is accurate, timely, and useful, while helping the Executive Director, leadership team, and Board make informed decisions about programs, funding, and long-term sustainability.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will work closely with organizational leadership and program teams. Families Matter offers a 35-hour work, week with flexibility to work both in the northeast office and remotely, supporting a healthy work-life balance.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys hands-on work, takes ownership of financial processes, and understands the importance of strong financial stewardship in a community-focused organization.

  • Maintain financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and documentation that support accountability and consistent practice.
  • Prepare financial reports for the Executive Director, leadership team, Finance Committee, and Board, highlighting results, forecasts, reserves, and financial risks.
  • Support fund development through proposal budgets, grant reporting, revenue tracking, and assessment of financial return.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end processes.
