About Family Innovation Corporation
Family Innovation Corp. (FIC) offers a range of services, including accounting, strategic planning, risk management, and other specialized services to both internal and external clients.
We recognize excellent relationship management, accurate, actionable, and sound advice, as well as the desire to deliver high-quality work, thereby improving the group's overall performance and increasing its value-added capacities.
Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Working Manager to work closely with the Controller of the Family Office and help lead the day-to-day delivery of accounting, investment and compliance work across a complex portfolio of private companies, holding companies, trusts, special-purpose vehicles and investment entities.
This is a working-manager role that combines first-level review, workflow and deadline oversight, team coordination and direct preparation of complex accounting and investment work. The successful candidate will help ensure work is properly assigned, actively monitored, reviewed and completed while remaining an engaged member of the delivery team.
Role Overview
Your role will include:
Accounting, Review & Financial Reporting
- Preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual accounting records, financial statements and supporting working papers for investment, holding and related entities
- Completing complex accounting work involving investments, loans, shareholder accounts, intercompany balances, ownership structures and related-party transactions
- Performing the first-level review of work prepared by accountants and other team members, including the accounting treatment, supporting documentation, completeness and overall file readiness
- Providing clear review notes and ensuring matters are resolved before final review
- Ensuring files are complete, accurate, well documented and ready for tax, year-end, management or external-advisor review
- Investigating discrepancies, reconstructing historical transactions and documenting conclusions where information is incomplete or complex
Portfolio, Workflow & Deadline Management
- Owning the day-to-day accounting and compliance workflow, including recurring filings, year-end requirements, reporting commitments and client deliverables
- Ensuring responsibilities are clearly assigned and work is reviewed and completed in advance of applicable deadlines
- Ensuring work is properly assigned, actively monitored, reviewed and completed on time rather than only tracking due dates
- Leading regular workflow reviews with the team and providing concise reporting to the Controller on status, capacity, risks and required escalations
- Identifying missing information, dependencies and bottlenecks early, following up proactively and driving open items through completion
- Maintaining clear preparer, reviewer, owner and backup assignments across the portfolio
Investment Accounting & Administration
- Developing a detailed understanding of private equity, venture capital and other bespoke investments, including ownership, capital flows, economic entitlements and reporting requirements
- Reviewing legal agreements, transaction documents, financial records and stakeholder correspondence to determine the appropriate accounting treatment and allocation of investment activity
- Overseeing capital calls, distributions, investment reconciliations, investor reporting, cash movements and supporting documentation
- Preparing clear transaction summaries and reference materials that preserve institutional knowledge and support future accounting and decision-making
- Becoming a trusted internal resource who understands the history, structure and current status of the portfolio’s significant investments
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Helping oversee the day-to-day work of the accounting team, including prioritization, coordination, coaching, review and follow-up
- Supporting the Controller in allocating work, balancing team capacity and monitoring performance against agreed priorities and deadlines
- Supporting team development by providing practical guidance, clear review notes and context for complex structures and transactions
- Working collaboratively with the Controller, accountants, tax team, clients and external legal, tax, banking and investment advisors
- Building effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external advisors, communicating information requirements clearly and ensuring outstanding requests are followed through to completion
- Stepping into preparation work as a regular part of the role and whenever needed to meet commitments, resolve complex issues or support the team during peak periods
- Escalating technical, service, capacity and deadline risks promptly, with a clear summary and recommended next step
Required Skills or Experience
- CPA designation required
- At least six years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience reviewing the work of others and coordinating multiple files or entities
- Strong private-company financial reporting and full-cycle accounting experience
- Experience with family offices, private equity, venture capital, partnerships, trusts, holding companies or complex investment structures is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of intercompany accounting, related-party transactions, ownership structures and investment activity
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple systems, entities and information sources
- A hands-on working manager who expects to spend a meaningful portion of their time preparing and completing complex accounting and investment work, in addition to reviewing and coordinating the work of others
- A manager who is equally comfortable reviewing a file, preparing a complex continuity schedule and helping the team organize competing deadlines
- Strong ownership mentality and a demonstrated ability to drive work from assignment through completion
- Excellent judgment regarding when to resolve an issue independently, involve the team or escalate
- Curiosity and persistence when transactions or historical records are not immediately clear
- Clear, practical communication and a collaborative leadership style
- Strong documentation habits and a commitment to creating reliable institutional knowledge
- A service-oriented approach with high standards for accuracy, responsiveness and follow-through
What Success Looks Like
- Deadlines, commitments and open items are visible, assigned and completed on time
- Work prepared by the team receives timely, effective first-level review and is complete and ready for final review
- Complex accounting and investment matters are resolved and clearly documented
- The Controller has reliable visibility over portfolio status, risks, capacity and required decisions
- The Working Manager is deeply knowledgeable about the investments and can provide continuity across entities, transactions and stakeholders
- The team experiences this person as both an accountable manager and a collaborative, hands-on contributor
