Senior Financial Analyst (Finance Department) – Firmwide
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst (also referred to as “SFA”) is responsible for coordinating and performing complex tax compliance, reporting, and analytical activities across the Firm. The role supports partnership accounting, partner admissions and compensation processes, and other finance initiatives. The SFA conducts research, identifies risks and inconsistencies, recommends appropriate accounting or tax treatments and process improvements, and supports the automation and standardization of Firm-Wide finance processes.
In addition to their subject matter expertise in tax and compliance, the role requires a natural curiosity focus on continuous improvement, a self-sufficient, detail-driven professional who takes full ownership of their deliverables, anticipates needs, responds to business requests promptly, and hands in work that is complete, accurate and ready for review.
Work Environment
As part of the Firm-wide Finance team, this role can be located in any of the Canadian cities that Fasken has offices (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, Tsuut’ina Nations, Vancouver, Surrey). This role will be hybrid with occasional requirements as per business needs for onsite office collaboration and support. The successful candidate must live in or around their regional office and be able to commute to the office as often as required.
Hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Occasional pre-authorized overtime may be required to meet business needs. Flexibility may also be required within the Firm’s core business hours on occasion to meet the needs of other region’s time zones.

Primary Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation and Reporting
- Monitor and support the Firm’s compliance with partnership, commodity, and corporate tax requirements, and support the preparation and timely completion of related filings
- Prepare partnership annual tax returns and related filings, including T5013 & RL15 reporting, and coordinate their review and submission
- Ensure reporting to tax authorities aligns with internal accounting records and escalate identified discrepancies
- Update, issue, and prepare tax forms including tax withholding, T5, T3, and NR4 forms
- Assist with tax filing and compliance in our UK and South Africa offices
- Review the Adjusted Cost Base schedules for each partner and ensuring reconciliation before annual tax filings.
- Support Finance colleagues on all accounts, files, and matters directly related to tax calculations, including but not limited to, preparation of schedules, provincial tax allocations, cost of WIP calculations, and collection of tax receipts for allowable business expenses
- Research new or specialized tax treatments and prepare recommendations for management review
- Support tax audits and provide draft responses to notices from tax authorities for management review
- Investigate discrepancies, determine root causes, and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
Partner Accounting, Admissions and Compensation
- Maintain accurate and well-organized partner information across the Firm’s databases, registers and supporting documentation, including the register of limited partners and original signed partnership withdrawal forms, subscription agreements and transfer forms. Prepare, issue and file required partnership documents nationally.
- Coordinate the annual partner admission process, including preparing, validating and analyzing candidate reports, coordinating regional submissions, monitoring critical milestones and deadlines, maintaining process documentation and protocols; and resolving or escalating incomplete and inconsistent information; supporting annual process review, reporting enhancements and continues improvement initiatives.
- Administer, validate and analyze partner compensation information processed through AFS/Xcelerate and related systems, ensuring data integrity and compliance with established Firm protocols; investigating, documenting and escalating discrepancies; supporting annual process review, reporting enhancements and continues improvement initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
- Support with Firm banking agreements and other regulatory requirements.
- Support Finance Manager with other projects as required.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is considered an asset; however, an equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and professional expertise will also be considered.
- A CPA designation is required.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive accounting, tax and/or financial analysis experience, including at least two years performing complex work with a high degree of independence.
- Experience with partnership accounting, tax compliance, or professional services is preferred.
- Sound understanding of applicable accounting principles, including GAAP/ASPE.
- Working knowledge of Canadian partnership taxation, including T5013/RL-15 reporting, ACB tracking, income allocations and non-resident withholding.
- Experience in 3E and Power BI or comparable financial systems is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing complex financial data, performing reconciliations, and preparing management or regulatory reports.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, Power Query and large-data reconciliations) and working proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong research, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills with a proven record of meeting tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Learning quickly and adapting to new systems, processes and regulatory changes.

Compensation
The typical salary range for this position is $92,000 - $110,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
