About the Company
We are an established, family-run business servicing Toronto and surrounding areas for over seven decades in road construction, aggregate materials, and infrastructure maintenance.
About the Role
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Estimator will contribute directly to profitability by estimating, bidding, and managing civil construction projects. This hybrid opportunity combines core cost-estimating with hands-on project administration and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimating & Bidding: Prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates leveraging efficient construction practices, vetted subcontractors, and reliable material suppliers.
- Opportunity Tracking: Monitor the local construction market to identify and pursue projects aligned with business capabilities.
- Tender Collaboration: Finalize and submit bids in conjunction with the Estimating Manager.
- Stakeholder Relations: Liaison regularly with general contractors, municipal engineers, consultants, and construction management firms to secure tender invites and negotiate contracts.
- Job Administration: Oversee project administration on awarded contracts (bonding, insurance, baseline schedules, permits, purchase orders, subcontracts, and job costing) across ICI, sub-municipal, and subdivision sectors.
- Project Management & Field Support: Attend site meetings, price changes/extras, resolve disputes, assist site teams with quantity measurements, and coordinate invoicing and collections.
- Post-Project Review: Conduct production and cost/profit variance analyses (actual vs. bid) to optimize future tenders.
- Safety & Compliance: Promote and adhere to all corporate health and safety policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 4+ years of estimating experience in construction (road construction, paving, or civil infrastructure strongly preferred).
- Sector Knowledge: Experience with ICI, municipal, or subdivision projects.
- Software: Proficiency with standard office and estimating software (experience with BID2WIN is an asset).
- Credentials: Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation is an asset, but not required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong written/verbal communication with the ability to maintain lasting client and partner relationships.
- Organization: Proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Mobility: Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for regular site visits.
