Key Responsibilities
Customs and Cross Border Compliance
· Provide operational oversight of Canadian and U.S. import and export compliance, including customs documentation, tariff classification, country of origin, valuation and USMCA/CUSMA requirements.
· Ensure shipment data and supporting records are accurate, complete, controlled and retained in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
· Work with customs brokers, carriers, internal subject-matter experts and other partners to resolve entry discrepancies, shipment holds and compliance risks promptly.
· Maintain clear controls and escalation procedures that prevent unsupported customs changes or preferential-trade claims and support audit readiness.
Outbound Parts and Machine Shipping
· Ensure parts, machines and intercompany transfers are picked, packed, documented and shipped safely, accurately and on time.
· Maintain visibility of upcoming shipments, priorities, documentation status, capacity constraints and risks, and communicate changes promptly.
· Oversee carrier and freight-forwarder performance, freight cost, packaging, crating, loading coordination, damage, claims and escalated delivery issues.
· Ensure customer requirements, routing instructions, Incoterms and internal shipment-release controls are consistently followed.
Daily Leadership and Workforce Management
· Lead daily huddles to confirm priorities, assign responsibilities, identify constraints and ensure the team understands the plan for the day.
· Manage workload and capacity across shipping, receiving and warehouse activities, proactively reallocating available resources when one area has excess capacity.
· Set clear expectations for productivity, service, accuracy and follow-through, and ensure the team remains effectively utilized throughout the day.
· Maintain regular floor presence, coach the team, remove barriers and follow up on commitments and performance gaps.
· Develop cross-training and coverage plans to reduce dependency on individual employees and improve flexibility across functions.
Cross Functional Coordination
· Coordinate closely with Sales, Parts Sales, Operations and Planning to align shipment dates, production readiness, documentation and customer priorities.
· Provide clear and timely updates on shipment status, delays, risks, resource constraints and recovery actions.
· Resolve cross-functional issues before they affect customers, production schedules or regulatory compliance.
Receiving Warehouse and Inventory Control
· Ensure receiving, put-away and material movement activities are completed safely, accurately and on time.
· Maintain standards for warehouse organization, 5S, safe storage, space utilization, material identification and location accuracy.
· Ensure discrepancies, returns, transfers, negative inventory, picking errors and recurring inventory variances are investigated and resolved.
· Oversee cycle counts, physical inventory and warehouse audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
Continuous Improvement and Performance
· Maintain practical KPIs and daily or weekly controls for on-time shipping, backlogs, productivity, accuracy, freight performance and customs compliance.
· Use data, floor observation and root-cause analysis to eliminate recurring issues and sustain corrective actions.
· Lead improvements to layout, workflow, systems, material flow, labour utilization and business-continuity plans.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, business, operations or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
· Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience in logistics, shipping, warehouse operations or customs compliance, including responsibility for workforce and capacity management.
· Strong working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. import and export requirements, tariff classification, country of origin, valuation, Incoterms and USMCA/CUSMA documentation.
· Certified Customs Specialist designation or a comparable North American customs or trade-compliance credential is preferred; equivalent customs-compliance experience will be considered.
· APICS or ASCM certification, including CPIM or CSCP, is an asset. Strong cross-functional communication, ERP and Microsoft Excel skills are required.
