Original job description
Are you a people leader who builds trust, brings clarity and follows through? Do you enjoy turning competing priorities into a practical plan that keeps work moving?
FERO is looking for a Shop People and Planning Manager to lead our shop team and connect people, production priorities and customer needs. This is an opportunity to make a visible difference in how employees are supported, how teams communicate and how work gets planned.
You will be the formal people leader for shop employees, working alongside our Manufacturing Operations Manager. You will lead employee matters and coordinate what needs to be produced and when; your operations counterpart will lead daily production execution and technical work.
Why This Role Matters
This role brings dedicated people leadership and workforce planning together. You will help build consistency, strengthen communication between the shop and office, and align production plans with customer commitments. Your influence will show in how employees are supported and how work gets done.
About FERO
FERO designs, engineers and manufactures high-performance connection solutions used in some of North America's most demanding industrial and infrastructure projects. Our success comes from skilled people who collaborate, solve problems and take pride in delivering quality products that customers can rely on.
What You Will Be Doing
· Build relationships across shifts, listen to employee concerns and provide clear, consistent follow-up.
· Lead recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance reviews and employee development.
· Coach employees through performance, attendance and workplace challenges, addressing concerns fairly and reinforcing clear expectations and accountability.
· Coordinate staffing, vacation and training needs with production requirements.
· Develop achievable production schedules with operations input on labour, equipment, materials and capacity.
· Keep ERP planning information accurate, identify scheduling risks and communicate changes between the office and shop.
· Support process improvements and ensure employees have current production and quality information, coordinating training and resource needs with operations.
What Will Help You Succeed
You may be a great fit for this role if you:
· Have experience leading employees, coaching performance, resolving conflict and handling difficult conversations constructively.
· Bring experience in production or operational planning and can balance workforce capacity with changing priorities.
· Build trust with employees at all levels, balance empathy with accountability and stay organized when priorities shift.
· Are comfortable using ERP or comparable planning systems and keeping information organized and accurate.
· Work well with a technical operations partner, knowing when to decide, collaborate or seek support.
· Use sound judgement, protect confidential information and follow through on commitments.
· Relevant education in business, operations, manufacturing or human resources is an asset. We also welcome an equivalent combination of practical experience and training.
Why Join FERO
Help shape how people leadership, workforce planning and communication work together at FERO. You will combine practical business problem solving with the opportunity to develop employees and make respect, open communication and ownership part of everyday work.
What Success Looks Like
· Employees across shifts know where to turn, receive consistent follow-up and understand what is expected of them.
· Production schedules reflect available capacity, ERP information is reliable and changes reach the people who need them.
· The shop and office work together effectively, employee development moves forward and agreed improvements are put into practice.
Where You Will Work
This is an onsite role combining office work with a regular presence on the shop floor. You will connect with employees across operating shifts, with hours and coverage arrangements established with management.
What We Offer
· Competitive compensation.
· Performance bonus plan.
· Extended health benefits after three months of full-time employment.
· On-site parking.
