Overview

You know how to open doors, earn a dealer’s confidence, and turn a new relationship into growing business. You enjoy finding untapped opportunities and making a compelling case for why a retailer should invest in your products. You are equally comfortable discussing the business opportunity with a dealer owner and demonstrating the product with their sales team.

As Business Development Manager - Paint, Canada, you will help shape Festool’s presence in the Canadian professional paint market. Based in the Greater Toronto Area and reporting to the National Sales Manager - Paint, you will have responsibility across Canada, spending the majority of your time expanding our paint retail footprint. Your opportunity is to build a network of productive dealer locations that brings Festool’s sanding, dust extraction, and surface preparation solutions to more professional users.

The challenge is turning market potential into dealer commitment and lasting sales. You will need to prospect consistently, work through objections, and earn space, investment, and attention from retailers with competing priorities. Canada’s geography will require disciplined travel planning and sound judgement about where to focus your time. Success means staying involved beyond the opening order, helping new dealers build confidence, generate demand, and establish repeat business. If you thrive with independence and take ownership of both winning business and making it work, this role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact.

Job Responsibilities

Owns the expansion of Festool’s paint retail footprint across Canada, with accountability for new productive dealer locations and associated revenue growth.
Spends the majority of time identifying, qualifying, recruiting, and developing new paint dealer locations, including additional locations within existing dealer networks.
Develops and executes an annual Canadian paint business development plan with clear priorities, target markets, prospective accounts, revenue expectations, and milestones.
Evaluates gaps in distribution and prioritizes opportunities based on market potential, dealer capabilities, customer reach, and alignment with Festool’s paint program.
Builds relationships with prospective dealer owners, leadership teams, buyers, and other decision makers to communicate the commercial opportunity and secure commitments.
Develops dealer proposals covering assortment, opening orders, merchandising, training, and launch activities within established Festool programs and approval guidelines.
Coordinates dealer onboarding and establishes clear plans to move new locations from opening orders to sustained sell-through and repeat business.
Expands participation within existing paint retail networks by identifying suitable locations and securing support for broader program adoption.
Grows assigned paint dealers through assortment expansion, improved product availability, effective merchandising, and increased sales per location.
Trains dealer teams to confidently demonstrate, recommend, and sell Festool’s paint-related tools, dust extraction, abrasives, and accessories.
Uses targeted product demonstrations, contractor engagement, and dealer events to support new location activation and create demand through authorized dealers.
Works with the National Sales Manager - Paint to develop Canadian opportunities within centrally managed accounts and buying groups, maintaining alignment on customer strategy and commercial commitments.
Coordinates with the Key Account Manager - Canada, Marketing, training resources, and Customer Service to support shared opportunities and maintain clear account ownership.
Maintains an active CRM pipeline with qualified opportunities, anticipated location openings, revenue potential, customer commitments, and next steps.
Tracks new location productivity, reorder activity, sales growth, and pipeline conversion, taking corrective action when results fall short of expectations.
Plans national travel and customer activity around priority markets and the highest-value opportunities

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
5+ years of sales, business development, or dealer development experience preferred, ideally within paint, coatings, power tools, abrasives, or related professional trade markets.
Demonstrated success recruiting new dealers, expanding retail distribution, or increasing participation within multi-location customer networks.
Proven ability to convert prospective accounts into active, productive customers and deliver sustained revenue growth.
Strong understanding of the Canadian paint retail market; established industry relationships strongly preferred.
Experience identifying market opportunities, prioritizing prospects, and developing actionable business development plans.
Strong commercial judgement, including the ability to explain dealer value, recommend appropriate assortments, and negotiate commitments within company guidelines.
Confidence working with dealer owners, senior decision makers, buyers, and store-level teams.
Ability to conduct hands-on product demonstrations and dealer training, with a willingness to develop strong Festool product and application knowledge.
Strong prospecting, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
Proficiency with CRM tools and sales data to manage opportunities, prioritize activity, and communicate results.
Self-directed and accountable, with the ability to manage national responsibilities and coordinate internal resources without direct reporting authority.
Based in the Greater Toronto Area, with the ability and willingness to travel throughout Canada and periodically to the United States, including overnight travel and occasional weekend events.
Proficiency in English required; French proficiency preferred.
Valid driver’s licence and ability to transport and safely demonstrate tools and equipment.
Ability to travel overnight 50% on average, including occasional travel to the United States.
