Field Service Technician - Trainee
The position of Field Servie Technician - Trainee is with Fike Canada (remote/hybrid), a subsidiary of Fike Corporation headquartered in Blue Springs, Missouri, U.S. Employment for this role will be based in (Ontario) and subject to Canadian employment legislation. This posting is for a full-time existing vacancy, reporting to the EP Service Supervisor for the Field Services Group.
Job Summary
Entry level position emphasized on learning and development while working towards providing highly skilled electrical and mechanical support on maintenance and troubleshooting of Fike’s Explosion Protection (EP) systems. Under close supervision and guidance, works towards providing onsite customer service and support for the maintenance services in varying conditions ranging from -50 below zero to +120 degrees Fahrenheit in ever-changing surroundings from coal dust to sterile pharmaceutical conditions. Travels 90% of the time, primarily domestic.
Primary Responsibilities

- Assists with many projects relating to Fike supplied equipment.
- Assists with job site problem analysis.
- Along with team member(s), travels to various facilities, nationwide, as required.
- Learns emergency rebuild, routine service, and troubleshoots problems at job sites.
- Complies with Fike expense policy and provides weekly reports for customer billing and expense reimbursement.
- Along with team members(s), participates in emergency/after-hours trips requiring immediate attention to meet customer schedules.
- Learns knowledge of Fike systems and applications to assist in problem solving to both internal and external customers.
- Documents issues and findings and communicates effectively to required groups.
- Ensures resources comply with all customer safety requirements.
- Provides customer service in accordance with company policies, procedures and ISO-9001 requirements.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
- Utilizes Fike’s electronic field service platform to prepare reports on work performed and document all pertinent information.
- Learns to operate lift equipment safely, including working at heights, and obtaining man lift certification as requested.
- Completes in person and on-line safety training.
Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and, use hands. Must be able to lift more than 75 pounds without the aid of equipment, climb ladders, and work in difficult situations such as elevated heights, off of man lifts, scaffolding, tight spaces, and ever changing environments. Must be able to travel for consecutive days.
Job Qualifications
REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent. Mechanical or electrical aptitude. Solid verbal and written communication skills needed to accurately describe problems and communicate with customers. Must be able to obtain a Passport. Basic knowledge of Windows and/or Google Suite. Ability to work emergency cover at short notice. A valid driver's license and the regular operation of a company vehicle are essential duties of this role. All candidates are required to meet and maintain a satisfactory driving standard as determined by our insurance provider.
This Includes
- No major traffic violations within the last five (5) years.
- No more than three (3) minor traffic infractions within the last five (5) years.

PREFERRED: Associate’s degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic understanding of NFPA standards and other related code requirements. Experience in computer and/or security networking. Previous field service experience for an industrial product.
Working Conditions & Benefits
Hours: Given the nature of the position, it is expected that the employee's hours of work may vary, and the employee will be required to work the hour’s necessary to meet the needs of the position. Evening and weekend work may be required from time to time.

In compliance with the Employment Standards Act, 2000 and Ontario Regulation 476/24, the expected compensation for this position is: $24.54/hour CAD - $32.92/hour CAD.
