Original job description

Job Summary:

Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of a Senior Engineer, the Project Engineer shall also perform duties in conjunction with the President and General Manager to accurately and efficiently perform various technical activities related to the planning, design, construction and management of various design, study and construction projects for First Nations Engineering Services Ltd. (FNESL). This position reports to the General Manager regarding administrative and policy matters.

The Project Engineer will perform a variety amount of work related to the administration and management of projects including planning, designing and overseeing construction of municipal infrastructure facilities.

Responsibilities:

Completing assignments with minimal guidance from Senior Engineers.
Maintain a record of communication between client and other parties for each project.
Coordinating Technicians and Designers to ensure that contract drawings are accurately prepared/reviewed.
Coordinating Subconsultants’ activity on projects.
Preparing and reviewing written technical reports including but not limited to feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, and design criteria reports.
Preparing contract documents and construction drawings.
Performing project coordination tasks including communications with Clients, managing schedules, budgets, and reporting requirements.
Achieving budget compliance on assigned engineering projects to comply financial objectives.
Delivering projects on budget and within identified schedules.
Assisting with writing proposals to procure new projects.
Communicating effectively and clearly, written and verbal.
Executing projects in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
Participating in scheduling, budgeting, tendering, and inspection.
Acting as the primary contact for all project-related Client & Company Site Inspector communications.
Engaging in a collaborative work environment with your team, as well as other disciplines and offices.
Complying and working within COR certified environment and performing all duties in accordance with those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation.
Ensure compliance with current applicable Provincial and Federal legislation, regulations, standards and policies.
Ensure goals are achieved with an emphasis on quality and profit.
Work with Finance Department by completing project status reports to ensure timely and accurate billing.
Ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner for Senior Engineer’s thorough review.

Job Requirements:

University degree in Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Registered as a Professional Engineer with PEO.
5+ years of progressive experience in designing infrastructure is essential.
Experience of designing infrastructure projects in Ontario is considered an asset.
Ability to work extended hours and have a flexible work schedule to complete assignments when required.
Ability to prioritize workloads, planning and management skills to adhere to strict timelines.
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Excellent communication skills. Writing, verbal communication skills, and technical writing skills are required.
Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Focus on providing outstanding service to clients.
Proficient in the use of desktop computational tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project.
Personal vehicle and valid ‘G’ Class Ontario driver’s license and ability to travel within Ontario.
