Finance Manager (Fixed-term Maternity Leave Contract)

The First Nations Technology Council is seeking an experienced and organized Finance Manager to provide maternity leave coverage from October 19, 2026 to July 30, 2027.

The Finance Manager will oversee the organization’s day-to-day financial operations and ensure that financial reporting, project budgets, funder claims, payroll, payments, reconciliations, and compliance requirements continue to operate effectively.

Working closely with the CEO, Directors, project leads, finance staff, funders, and external service providers, the Finance Manager will provide practical financial guidance and help teams manage their budgets and funding responsibilities.

The position will begin with a transition period alongside the current Director of Finance and will include a handover period before the end of the contract.

The First Nations Technology Council is an Indigenous-led non-profit mandated by First Nations leadership in British Columbia. We work to advance digital literacy, improve internet connectivity and provide guidance on data and digital technology for all 204 First Nations across the province.

About the Role

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee day-to-day finance operations, reconciliations, AP/AR, payroll entries, and balance-sheet accounts.
Prepare quarterly financial reports and consolidated restricted/unrestricted statements for the CEO and Board.
Lead year-end financial close and audit preparation, ensuring fiscal year-end compliance requirements are met.
Maintain organizational and project budgets; prepare budget-to-actual reports and flag variances.
Prepare and review funder claims and reports, ensuring eligibility, documentation, and deadlines are met.
Ensure shared costs, salaries, and benefits are correctly allocated across projects.
Oversee payroll processing, remittances, and benefit allocations across funding agreements.
Monitor cash flow, banking activity, and short-term forecasts.
Supervise the junior accountant, review day-to-day work, provide guidance and feedback, and support their development.
Act as primary finance contact during the contract; support the CEO, Directors, and project leads with clear, practical financial guidance.
Promote consistent financial practices and accountability across the organization.
Handle sensitive financial and employee information with discretion.
Take on additional finance-related tasks as required by the CEO.
Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

CPA designation (or working toward), with 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
Experience managing organizational and project budgets, funder claims, and reporting under government, corporate, or philanthropic agreements.
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel.
Nonprofit, Indigenous organization, or project-funded environment experience is a strong asset.
Highly organized, clear communicator, comfortable working independently and knowing when to escalate.
Committed to respectful, culturally responsive engagement with First Nations colleagues, partners, and communities.

Supervision:

This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer

Our head office is located at the First Nations Technology Council headquarters in Vancouver, BC, with an opportunity to work remotely.

Term:

October 19, 2026 – July 30, 2027 (9.5 months)
