Role Description
We are seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support engineering and operational improvement projects for our clients. This opportunity is well suited to a recent engineering graduate or early-career professional looking to develop practical experience in equipment reliability, maintenance strategies, asset management, and project delivery.
Working under the guidance of experienced engineers and consultants, you will assist with technical analyses, equipment performance reviews, maintenance planning, and the development of reports and recommendations. You will work directly with client teams to understand operational challenges, collect and validate information, and help turn engineering analysis into practical improvements.
The successful candidate can be based anywhere in Canada but must be willing and able to travel to client sites as project requirements dictate. The balance of remote and on-site work, along with travel frequency and duration, will depend on the assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Reliability and equipment performance: Analyze equipment downtime, failure history, and maintenance data to identify trends and opportunities to improve reliability and availability.
- Maintenance and asset management: Assist with preventive maintenance reviews, maintenance strategy development, equipment assessments, and asset management initiatives.
- Engineering analysis: Support root cause investigations, life cycle cost analyses, equipment replacement evaluations, and other technical studies.
- Planning and project support: Contribute to maintenance plans, project schedules, budgets, cost tracking, and progress reporting.
- Data and reporting: Collect, organize, and validate operational data; prepare spreadsheets, dashboards, technical reports, and presentations.
- Client and site collaboration: Work with maintenance, operations, planning, and engineering teams to understand site conditions, support implementation, and communicate findings while following site safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Education and EIT eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, mining, or a related engineering discipline. Registered as an Engineer-in-Training, or eligible for registration.
- Early-career experience: Relevant co-op, internship, summer employment, or early-career experience is an asset. Recent graduates with strong technical fundamentals and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
- Engineering fundamentals: Foundational understanding of equipment systems, engineering analysis, and problem-solving. Exposure to maintenance, reliability, or asset management is beneficial.
- Analytical and software skills: Strong Excel skills and the ability to interpret technical data. Familiarity with Power BI, maintenance management systems such as Maximo or SAP, or other engineering and analytical tools is an asset.
- Communication and teamwork: Ability to prepare clear documentation, explain findings, ask thoughtful questions, and work effectively with both technical and operational teams.
- Organization and initiative: Strong attention to detail, the ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines, and a proactive approach to learning and seeking guidance.
- Travel and site readiness: Based in Canada and willing and able to travel to client locations. Comfortable working in mining and industrial environments, with a strong commitment to safety and adherence to site procedures.
