Original job description
We’re here to make air travel affordable for everyone, and we’re looking for talented individuals who want to help us continue changing the industry for the better. As Canada’s most reliable airline, we're all about offering real value. As we continue to expand our network, increase flight frequencies, and introduce more services, we’re looking for passionate team members to help us in our mission to make air travel accessible for everyone. We know who we are, and we’re confident in our approach.
Your Team
Join Flair’s Operations Control Centre (OCC) team, where effective coordination and real-time operational support help ensure accurate passenger processing and reliable flight departures across the network. Reporting to the Supervisor, Departure Control Systems, the Departure Control Coordinator (DCC) is responsible for monitoring and managing day-of-departure activities, including flight configuration, passenger and crew data transmission, travel-document exceptions, government messaging, and flight close-out requirements.
Working within the Passenger & Departure Control (PDC) function, the Departure Control Coordinator supports scheduled, charter, recovery, and non-standard operations by ensuring required information is accurately transmitted, passenger exceptions are addressed, and airport stations receive timely technical support. The role monitors APIS, U.S. Secure Flight, CBP messaging, and other regulatory requirements while resolving routine issues and escalating complex or time-sensitive matters in accordance with established procedures.
This role is based on-site at our Toronto, ON (YYZ) office.
A Day In The Life
APIS & Passenger Vetting
- Monitor Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS), Secure Flight, passenger vetting, and other required government submissions for scheduled, charter, recovery, subservice, and non-standard operations.
- Ensure passenger and crew information is accurately transmitted within required pre-departure, departure, and post-departure timelines, in accordance with applicable Canadian, U.S., and international requirements.
- Monitor government responses, rejected submissions, incomplete records, and passenger-vetting discrepancies, coordinating corrective action before departure.
- Investigate travel-document and passenger-data discrepancies, including passport, visa, citizenship, residency, secondary travel documents, and destination-address information.
- Coordinate passenger resolution calls with Canadian, U.S., and international government authorities, providing stations with guidance on document verification, boarding eligibility, and required corrective actions.
- Use approved manual transmission procedures when automated systems are unavailable, ensuring submissions and government responses are properly documented.
- Monitor Airline Choice and associated Departure Control System (DCS) interfaces to ensure flights are correctly configured and prepared for departure.
- Verify aircraft registrations, seating configurations, passenger and crew lists, manifests, and other operational information across Airline Choice, Amelia, NavBlue NOC, and related systems.
- Identify and resolve system discrepancies, transmission failures, quality-control messages, and flight-close exceptions in coordination with relevant departments.
- Support airport stations with DCS functionality, passenger processing, check-in, boarding, travel-document entry, passenger reconciliation, and flight close-out.
- Apply approved manual procedures during system or connectivity outages to maintain operational continuity and accurate passenger records.
- Coordinate APIS, passenger vetting, DCS preparation, manifests, and flight-close requirements for charter, recovery, subservice, ferry, and other non-standard operations.
- Work with Charter Operations, Airports, Crew, Flight Operations, and ground handlers to obtain accurate passenger and crew information within required timelines.
- Prepare and transmit passenger and crew information manually when standard system integrations are unavailable, including General Declarations (GENDEC) and crew manifests where required.
- Verify that operating, passive, deadheading, and positioning crew are accurately reflected in applicable systems and regulatory submissions.
- Escalate incomplete information, regulatory concerns, or operational issues that may affect departure readiness.
- Maintain accurate records of government submissions, responses, resolution calls, DCS activities, manual actions, exceptions, and corrective measures in approved systems.
- Support documentation and evidence collection for regulatory inquiries, audits, investigations, penalties, complaints, and legal proceedings.
- Identify recurring passenger-data errors, system issues, station discrepancies, and procedural gaps, reporting findings to the Supervisor.
- Escalate unresolved government responses, transmission failures, passenger-vetting concerns, regulatory risks, and departure-readiness issues to the Supervisor and Duty Officer.
- Maintain effective shift handovers covering outstanding government messages, passenger exceptions, system issues, and unresolved actions.
- Maintain primary qualification in Departure Control and complete required initial and recurrent training.
- Maintain approved secondary training in routine Passenger Recovery activities to support operational flexibility between functions.
- Support Passenger Recovery Coordinators (PRCs) during significant irregular operations (IROPs), when directed and qualified, while maintaining DCS and APIS priorities.
- Perform assigned Passenger Recovery duties only when qualified and under the functional direction established by the Manager, Passenger Operations and Recovery.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable systems, procedures, communication standards, and escalation requirements.
The preferred candidate should exemplify Flair's core values: honesty, efficiency, accountability, and respect, while demonstrating success in previous roles. Additionally, we are seeking individuals who possess:
