Original job description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Industrial Painter / Prep & Paint Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for preparing metal components for painting, applying protective or finish coatings, and ensuring high-quality results that meet all customer and specification requirements.

You will play a critical role in the final stages of production - ensuring all parts are properly prepared, painted, and documented prior to assembly or shipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, mask, sand, grind, and hang parts for paint or coating processes.
  • Mix paint and materials uniformly, ensuring proper viscosity, shelf life, and application standards.
  • Apply primers and topcoats using spray equipment, adjusting settings as needed to meet specifications (including mil thickness and gloss).
  • Inspect and test coatings for proper finish, gloss, adhesion, and thickness using gauges/meters.
  • Touch up, buff, and perform surface repairs as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and paint instructions.
  • Complete all required documentation, including paint cards, flow charts, thickness records, and traceability logs.
  • Operate overhead cranes and safely move parts through production stages on schedule.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in clean, safe working condition.
  • Follow all company safety protocols, including use of PPE (e.g., respirators, gloves, goggles).
  • May perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in industrial or aerospace paint/prep environments.
  • Strong understanding of surface preparation, masking, and paint mixing techniques.
  • Ability to read blueprints and work to technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with paint testing equipment (thickness gauges, gloss meters, etc.).
  • Ability to follow traceability and documentation protocols accurately.
  • Overhead crane experience an asset.
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and heat.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Surface Prep Expert: You have hands-on experience with sanding, grinding, masking, and cleaning metal surfaces, and understand how critical proper preparation is for a flawless finish.
  • Coating Precision: You apply primers, topcoats, and protective finishes with accuracy - controlling spray patterns, adjusting pressure settings, and meeting exact thickness and gloss requirements.
  • Documentation-Driven: You understand the importance of traceability and consistently complete paint cards, flow charts, and measurement logs with precision and accountability.
  • Inspection Mindset: You take the time to visually and physically inspect your work using gauges and meters, ensuring that each part meets spec before it moves forward.
  • Physically & Safety Ready: You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced, physical environment, always wearing proper PPE and following protocols to protect yourself, your team, and the product.

If you are driven, precise, and ready to contribute to a team that values quality and innovation, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity at Fleet Canada.Inc
