Original job description

Description

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Waikato team and help deliver road construction projects across the region.

This is an opportunity to step into a growing part of the business, leading construction projects from planning through to completion while working alongside experienced operational teams. You'll take ownership of project delivery, build strong client relationships, and play an important role in developing a team that is focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

For the right person, this role offers genuine opportunities for professional development, increased responsibility, and long-term career growth within Higgins.

Key Responsibilities

Manage road construction projects through all stages of delivery, from planning and programming to handover
Coordinate multiple construction operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
Monitor project budgets, forecasts, programme performance, and commercial outcomes
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders
Lead and support project teams, providing direction, coaching, and clear expectations
Promote a strong health, safety, quality, and environmental culture where every incident is considered preventable

What You'll Bring to the Role

A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
Experience managing road construction or civil infrastructure projects through the full project lifecycle
Proven ability to manage multiple operations while delivering quality outcomes on time and within budget
Strong commercial capability, including experience pricing and managing projects valued at $10M+
Leadership skills that enable you to build capable, engaged, and high-performing teams
A practical approach to health and safety, with a genuine belief that every incident can be prevented

What’s on Offer

Competitive salary package, with relocation support available
KiwiSaver employer contribution matched up to 4%
In-house technical training and leadership development programmes
Career opportunities across Higgins and Fletcher Construction
A range of retail benefits for you and your family to enjoy

Higgins is a leading construction and infrastructure company, proudly building and maintaining roads, bridges, and civil projects that connect communities across New Zealand. With a strong focus on safety, quality, and sustainability, we deliver projects that make a real difference. At Higgins, you’ll join a team that values collaboration, innovation, and career growth – because we believe our people are the foundation of our success.

We're with you on the road ahead

Ko tatou kei a koe i te huarahi kei mua

We are actively looking to fill this role and encourage your early application. Applications are reviewed regularly, and we reserve the right to remove the advertisement before the advertised closing date.

Research shows that females and minority groups don’t always apply for roles unless they match 100% of the requirements. So, if this role is of interest but you feel you don’t quite fit, we encourage you to apply anyway. We are enriched by many nationalities, languages, religions, customs, and lifestyles. We are proud of our diversity and see it as one of the things that make us better together.
