AI Use in Our Hiring Process

We use technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), to support parts of our hiring process. About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Product Manager to own Scaled Spend Controls - one of three squads inside Float’s Spend Management pillar, reporting to the Head of Spend Management.

Your squad’s mission is to give finance leaders enough control and visibility that they are willing to put more of their company’s spend on Float. Budgets and reporting are not adoption goals in themselves. They exist to make a controller confident enough to raise a limit, open a new spend category, or migrate a spend type onto card - and that confidence is what shows up as revenue. Using AI first approach to bring in budget visibility into the product and meeting users where they're at; you're objective will be to automate away the friction of finance reconciliation through automations, integrations and building out a delightful scaled spend experience.

You’ll work with a designer and four engineers, alongside Product Ops/Analytics, and partner closely with Accounting, CX, and Sales.

What You’ll Own

Surface area

Budgets - funding pools, categorization, recurring structures, enforcement
Spend programs and controls - policy definition and enforcement, the container binding policy, budget, and card
Reporting - the reporting platform, period comparison, out-of-policy spend visibility, and the reporting views that surface on users command center
AI enabled reporting - Incorporating AI to help answer finance questions based on users spend data
Month end reconciliation automation - AI first month end workflows to automate transaction coding

Outcomes you’re accountable for

Spend per account
Budget and reporting adoption across mid-market accounts
The behavioural link between them: do accounts that adopt budgets actually raise ceilings and open categories?

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Product strategy and roadmap

Own the squad’s roadmap end-to-end: sizing, sequencing, and cuts. Candidate initiatives are pre-populated; the judgment about what ships and in what order is yours.
Make the trade-off calls on the pillar’s most constrained roadmap, and escalate with options when scope and capacity don’t reconcile.
Benchmark against Ramp and the broader spend management market, and be specific about which gaps are worth closing and which aren’t.

Product execution and delivery

Take features from discovery through launch and iteration with a designer and four engineers.
Write requirements that engineering can estimate against, in plain language rather than implementation jargon.
Manage dependencies across squads - you consume detection, notification delivery, and approvals routing as services from another squad, and you supply policy definitions that a third squad evaluates at transaction time.

Analytics and instrumentation

Define the instrumentation that doesn’t exist yet, including limit-ceiling change events attributed to budget adoption, and category expansion events.
Set baselines with Product Ops in your first weeks and hold the line on measuring behaviour change, not just adoption.
Be willing to conclude that a thesis you inherited is wrong, and say so.

Customer-focused development

Work directly with finance leaders and controllers, and with Sales and CX, to understand where control and visibility break down.
Reduce friction in high-complexity B2B workflows - permissions, policy configuration, bulk operations, reporting exports, accounting integrations.

AI-enabled product and workflow thinking

Use AI tools to accelerate research, documentation, analysis, and planning.
Identify high-leverage, responsible AI use cases in reporting and analysis - natural-language querying over spend data is on the roadmap - and evaluate risks, data requirements, and guardrails when proposing them.

What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)

You’ve shipped budgets and a phased reporting rollout, with real adoption in mid-market accounts.
Spend per active card is up, and you can explain which of your initiatives moved it.
The visibility-drives-spend thesis is either evidenced or disproven, and the roadmap reflects the answer.
Established-cardholder decline recovery is measurably better.
Engineering, Design, and Analytics want to work on your squad, and leadership trusts your prioritization without needing to re-derive it.

What We’re Looking For

You have strong product fundamentals. 5+ years of hands-on B2B SaaS product management in a startup or scale-up, with end-to-end ownership of a meaningful surface and measurable impact to show for it.
You’re analytically strong. Comfortable with SQL or a genuine working partnership with data teams. You define your own metrics, spot when a number is measuring the wrong thing, and change your mind when the evidence is clear.
You act like an owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, not output. You escalate risks with options attached.
You have conviction. You can hold a position through pushback when you have evidence, and drop it quickly when you don’t.
You have good product judgment. You can tell good design from bad, you think in workflows and edge cases, and you can navigate a domain where the edge cases have accounting consequences.
You put customers first. You start from real workflow friction, and you can distinguish a genuinely painful workflow from a merely unfamiliar one.
You’re curious about AI. You use modern tools to sharpen your own output, and you’re open-minded about where AI belongs in the product.
Nice to haves:
- Fintech, spend management, or financial operations product experience
- Exposure to policy engines, permissions systems, budgeting or FP&A tools, or reporting and analytics platforms
- Familiarity with accounting workflows - GL structures, dimensions, month-end close

This Role May Not Be a Fit If

You want a well-instrumented problem space with clean baselines waiting for you.
You prefer executing a roadmap someone else has sequenced.
You’re uncomfortable owning a number you can only move indirectly, through someone else’s behaviour change.
You avoid analytical work, or treat metric definition as someone else’s job.

Flexible Work Model

Float is Toronto-based with a hybrid model: in-office collaboration days, plus occasional in-person time for workflow-discovery sessions. Remote candidates within Canada considered, with occasional travel to Toronto.
