Original job description

We are a team of passionate medical and technological innovators on a mission to improve patient treatment and outcomes with cutting-edge medical devices like the FloPatch. FloPatch is the world’s first wireless Doppler ultrasound system designed to support the clinical management of critically ill patients. The wearable sensor enables real-time functional hemodynamic monitoring for patients requiring cardiopulmonary and fluid resuscitation. The successful candidate will assist Flosonics Medical in introducing FloPatch to the world.

We are seeking a hands-on Embedded Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will own the development, validation, and maintenance of FloPatch firmware while supporting software integration, board bring-up, and production testing. You will also develop embedded tools and automated test systems to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical challenges and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Working closely with Engineering and Manufacturing, you will support assembly automation, champion design-for-test and design-for-assembly, and contribute to the documentation, validation, and design controls required for medical device development.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of FloPatch firmware. Improve, validate, maintain, and document FloPatch code base.
  • Support requirements gathering and documentation for embedded test stations. Review electrical designs, perform board bring-up and testing. Own embedded code on production test stations and tools.
  • Support full-stack CI/CT testing and own the embedded infrastructure for product and manufacturing test automation.
  • Advocate for design-for-assembly as part of product design and development. Design and implement robotic systems to automate assembly.
  • Support review, development, and validation of production scripts, electronic, and mechanical CAD designs.
  • Documentation, validation, and design controls are part of the job.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, systems engineering or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience in embedded or automations/mechatronics engineering, with a focus on design-for-test.
  • Embedded C on ARM system-on-chip (Nordic nRF5x a plus) and peripherals/communications protocols (ADC, BLE, I2C, I2S, UART, etc.)
  • Experience with biosensors, battery-operated wearable electronics, low-power design and test.
  • Defensive coding style on bare metal, test-driven design within a CI/CT framework.
  • Test automation in Python, with a framework (Robot Framework or similar) and CI/CT experience.
  • Hardware bring-up and debug at the bench: SWD/JTAG, signal generator, logic analyzer, oscilloscope.
  • Comfort moving across firmware, hardware, scripting, and electromechanical automation.
  • Experience with prototyping, deep dive embedded debugging, and power analysis.
  • Production or manufacturing test experience; design-for-test and BIST.

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Robotics or automation for assembly and test cells.
  • Production tooling on cross-platform Python environments (Windows/Linux/Raspberry Pi).
  • Regulated / medical-device experience (ISO 13485, design controls).
  • RF or ultrasound familiarity.
  • Statistics and experimental design methodology
  • Low-power low-noise PCB design, review, debugging

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this role is $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 CAD annually, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, and internal equity.

We wish to thank all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted directly. If you are selected to participate in the recruitment process, accommodations are available upon your request to meet your accessibility needs.
