About Flyscan Systems Inc.
Flyscan is at the cutting edge of technology in terms of security and environmental protection. We have created and developed an aerial camera inspection system capable of precisely identifying small oil leaks that the human eye and brain cannot process. Thanks to our state-of-the-art software, the use of AI and highly efficient algorithms, we can detect and report leaks or objects that pose a threat to pipelines to our clients.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design of our airborne remote sensing installations - both inside the aircraft cabin and externally on the airframe. You will set the design approach, substantiate it through hand calculations and finite element analysis to the standard TCCA and the FAA expect, and act as the technical reference for our mechanical designer, who works alongside you on detailing and drafting. You will also help build what surrounds the design work: quality processes, assembly documentation, and a supply chain we can rely on.
What matters most to us is strong mechanical design judgment and solid structural analysis skills. A long aerospace background is welcome but not a prerequisite - a real interest in aircraft structures and the discipline to work to that standard will take you a long way here. We work with a Design Approval Representative (DAR) who establishes the certification basis; your role is to design and substantiate installations that meet it.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role in a small team. You will own the designs, and you will be the person who can defend them in front of an authority.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Design ownership
- Own the mechanical design approach for our airborne sensing installations - selecting the right approach, arbitrating trade-offs, and standing behind the result.
- Design equipment installed inside the aircraft cabin (racks, mounts, enclosures, interfaces to seat rails and cabin structure) as well as externally mounted installations on the airframe (pods, fairings, skin reinforcements and doublers, sensor apertures and provisions).
- Act as the technical reference for our mechanical designer - review drawings and analysis, and set our design, drafting and GD&T standards.
Structural analysis and certification
- Substantiate installations through hand calculations and finite element analysis: static strength and margins of safety, joint and fastener analysis, emergency landing (crash) loads, vibration, fatigue and damage tolerance.
- Produce the analysis reports, drawings and certification artifacts required to support STC approvals under TCCA CAR 521 and FAA equivalents, in coordination with our DAR.
- Support DO-160G environmental qualification, ground testing and flight test activities, including test setup, instrumentation and conformity.
Production, quality and supply chain
- Help put our QA processes in place: design reviews, drawing and configuration control, inspection and conformity, and non-conformance handling.
- Write the assembly, installation and acceptance documentation - assembly manuals, work instructions and installation procedures used in production and in the field.
- Identify and qualify suppliers (machining, sheet metal, composites, surface treatments and special processes) and build a reliable supply chain with them.
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. A licensed engineer (OIQ member, or eligible for membership with the OIQ or another Canadian regulator) is strongly preferred.
- 7+ years in mechanical design, including a track record of owning design decisions rather than executing someone else’s.
- Strong structural analysis skills by hand calculation, with FEA (ANSYS / NASTRAN / SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent) used to confirm and refine engineering judgment rather than replace it.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks / CATIA / NX) and production of clear, complete manufacturing drawings.
- Experience designing for machining, sheet metal and assembly, and working directly with suppliers.
- A genuine interest in aircraft structures and airworthiness, and the rigor that working to that standard demands.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills - your reports need to convince a delegate or an authority, not only your colleagues.
- Comfortable in a small team, where you may size a bracket in the morning and follow up with a supplier in the afternoon.
Considered a Strong Asset
- Aerospace experience: aircraft structural design, previous involvement in an STC or other certification program, DO-160 environmental qualification, or familiarity with TCCA and FAA airworthiness regulations (CAR 3 / 14 CFR Part 23).
- Optomechanical design experience: mounting and aligning optical assemblies, thermal and mechanical stability, pointing stability, isolation of sensitive sensors from vibration.
- Composite design and analysis experience.
- Experience setting up QA processes, assembly documentation or a supply chain in a small or growing organization.
- Bilingual French / English.
What We Offer
- Enjoy unlimited sick days so you can prioritize your health without worry.
- Collective insurance program with a dental plan.
- Access to a telemedicine platform.
- Get a competitive salary based on your experience and market standards.
- Grow with opportunities for training and skill development.
- Take part in test flights and see our technology in action!
- Team activities remotely or in person organized by our social club.
- An awesome team!
