Original job description

Mechanical Service Estimator | up to $110,000+ | Calgary, AB

About the job

Foresight Recruitment Group is partnering with a long-established, highly respected commercial mechanical service contractor in Calgary to recruit a Mechanical Service Estimator. They want someone who can take real ownership of pricing and delivering service work across a busy building portfolio.

This is not a sit-at-the-desk estimating role.

We are looking for someone who understands how buildings actually work. Someone who can take a two-sentence request from a client, walk into the building, know exactly what to look for, and turn it into an accurate, professional quote the client can act on. Then see that work through to completion.

The successful candidate will join the Calgary team as part of a growing estimating group. The work spans HVAC, plumbing, gasfitting and hydronics across multi-family residential towers (3 to 40 storeys), commercial towers, retail plazas and light industrial buildings, almost always in occupied buildings.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Pricing service, maintenance and retrofit requests from clients and the field team, covering plumbing, hydronics, gasfitting and HVAC
  • Walking through sites to assess existing systems and conditions before quoting
  • Building accurate, professional quotes that account for occupied-building realities like shutdowns, access and tenant impact
  • Managing 50 to 80 open files at once, prioritizing by how critical the system is and how important the client relationship is
  • Following up on open quotes and keeping clients informed through the decision process
  • Project-managing approved work through to completion, working with field crews and the office
  • Closing out completed work, including returns and final financials, so accounting can invoice
  • Communicating professionally with everyone from residents and building managers to engineers and property owners

What we're looking for:

  • Journeyperson Plumber or Gasfitter ticket, or a related mechanical trade qualification
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial and multi-family mechanical systems: HVAC, plumbing, gasfitting and hydronics
  • Experience in mechanical service and maintenance, ideally including quoting or estimating
  • Exceptional organization, time management and prioritization skills
  • A polished, customer-first approach and strong written and verbal communication
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new quoting and project management software
  • A process-driven, mechanically minded problem-solver who takes pride in getting the details right
  • A valid driver's license, since roughly 10–15% of the role is on site

Experience running your own plumbing, HVAC or mechanical business is a real asset. If you've built something on your own and are ready for the stability and support of an established organization, this role is built for you. The same goes for driven, entrepreneurial tradespeople ready to move off the tools and into a client-facing role.

What makes this opportunity particularly interesting is the growth behind it, the organization is expanding. The role offers a clear path to broader client ownership and further responsibility.

Compensation is up to $110,000+, plus a company vehicle, benefits, RRSPs and three weeks' vacation, with real, ongoing training from day one.

We're looking for someone who wants to own their work from first walk-through to final invoice, not simply price it and pass it on.
