JOB POSTING

Position Title: Finance Officer- Full-time - Permanent Position

Position Description: Under the general direction of the Accounting Manager, the Finance Officer will perform internal control functions, account reconciliation, general ledger administration and preparation of audit working papers.

Major Responsibilities:

Process and/or verify financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal policies and procedures
Complete weekly Accounts Payable cycle meeting organizational deadlines
Set up and maintain vendor accounts to ensure current data
Monitor and enforce existing financial policies and procedures and assist with identifying areas for improvement relevant to accounting and internal control, budgeting, forecasting, and project tracking
Communicate and collaborate with the Accounting Manager as well as the Finance Department Staff to ensure consistent practices and procedures within the department
Assist with the internal development, leadership and mentorship of other Finance department staff including Finance Clerks in order to improve internal capacity
Collate information for various reports and remittances to funding/government agencies and management
Prepare account reconciliations
Prepare journal entries as required
Assist with audit and prepare audit working papers
Attend meetings as required
Performs other related duties as may be assigned

Working Conditions:

Travel may be required
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
Must be able to lift 30 pounds
Overtime as required

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in accounting is required, combined with a minimum of three (3) years experience in the accounting field. Enrolment in the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) program of study is encouraged.
Experience working within First Nations management.
Ability to work within a team setting and fast-paced work environment and is expected to initiate and problem-solve with collaboration from supervisors.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Accuracy and attention to detail
High level of experience of financial software is required (Microsoft Dynamics would be considered an asset).
Must be bondable and pass a Criminal Reference Check.

Salary: $64,336 Annually
