About the Opportunity
We're partnering with a leading Toronto-based private equity investment firm to hire two Software Engineers (Junior and Intermediate) for its growing Technology & Data team.
This isn't your typical software engineering role.
You'll build AI-native applications, backend systems and data-driven tools used directly by investment professionals to analyze information, evaluate opportunities and make better business decisions.
The work combines Python, AI, financial data, APIs, microservices and portfolio analytics, with opportunities to contribute across the full stack.
What makes this opportunity different is the level of ownership.
We're looking for engineers who don't just wait for requirements or execute tickets. You'll work directly with stakeholders, understand the business problem, figure out what needs to be built, and take solutions from concept through production.
You'll have meaningful responsibility, exposure to investment and operating teams, and the opportunity to see the direct impact of what you build.
What You'll Be Building
- AI-native applications: Build intelligent tools that analyze financial documents, extract insights and support investment workflows.
- Backend systems: Design, develop and maintain reliable services, APIs and microservices, primarily using Python.
- Portfolio analytics: Build applications that help investment teams understand portfolio company performance, financial metrics and returns.
- Data infrastructure: Develop pipelines and integrations that connect internal systems, external data sources and analytical applications.
- End-to-end product development: Take ownership of features from identifying the problem and designing the solution through implementation, testing and production.
- Full-stack capabilities: Contribute to user interfaces and interactive applications when needed.
- AI-assisted engineering: Use modern development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining strong standards for quality, security and reliability.
What We're Looking For
Above all, we're looking for smart, curious engineers who take ownership and know how to solve problems.
The strongest candidates will bring:
- Solid software engineering fundamentals, including system design, debugging, testing and writing maintainable code.
- Experience with Python, backend development, APIs and databases.
- Experience building, shipping or maintaining real software applications.
- The ability to work through ambiguous problems, ask the right questions and independently determine an approach.
- Strong analytical thinking and an interest in understanding the business impact of technical decisions.
- A proactive, hands-on mindset with a bias toward execution.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical background from a Top University.
- Proven production experience, strong backend engineering capabilities and demonstrated ownership of features or systems from design through delivery.
Nice to Have
- React, JavaScript, TypeScript or other full-stack technologies.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding tools, LLMs, AI agents, RAG or AI-powered applications.
- Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django or similar backend frameworks.
- Microservices, cloud platforms, distributed systems or data engineering.
- Experience working in a strong engineering environment with high standards for quality and delivery.
- Interest in investing, financial markets, private equity or data-intensive businesses.
Why This Opportunity?
- Real ownership: Work on meaningful projects rather than being limited to narrowly defined tickets.
- Build with AI: Develop modern applications that combine AI capabilities with real financial and operational data.
- Direct business impact: Work closely with investment professionals and understand how your technology supports important decisions.
- High-calibre team: Join a collaborative environment that values strong engineering fundamentals, independent thinking and continuous learning.
- Accelerated development: Gain responsibility and exposure early in your career while building complex, production-grade technology.
- Long-term opportunity: Join a growing technology function within an established investment business.
Who Will Thrive Here?
Someone who enjoys coding, but also loves figuring things out.
Someone who asks why before jumping into how.
Someone who can take an unclear problem, break it down, build a solution and take responsibility for the result.
If you want to build meaningful technology, work with smart people and take on real responsibility early in your career, we'd love to hear from you.
