About the Firm

Frankel & Company provides fractional finance leadership for high-growth technology startups and scaleups, driving clarity, capital efficiency and growth readiness. Through fractional CFO, strategic finance, advisory and controllership services, we partner with founders from Seed through Series B as they raise capital, scale and prepare for exits. In 10+ years we have completed 200+ engagements, supported $1B+ in transaction value and helped create $4B+ in equity value for clients including Ada, Carbon6, Mejuri, Kira Talent, and PartnerStack. We are a team of a dozen profesionals in Toronto, with backgrounds in CFO leadership, venture capital, investment banking, and accounting.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you will be our first dedicated BD hire, reporting to the Founder. We have grown through referrals and the quality of our work. Your job is to turn that into a disciplined, measurable pipeline that sources new clients. Every touchpoint you own should meet the standard our clients expect.

What You'll Do

Source founders at the right moment: recent raises, open finance roles, scaling, pre-exit
Research prospects and run personalized outreach across email and LinkedIn
Book qualified intro meetings for Michael and the partner team
Build and own the pipeline: stages, CRM, tools and weekly reporting
Grow referral relationships with VCs, lawyers, bankers and accountants
Test messaging and targeting, and scale what converts

What Success Looks Like

Success is measured by new client revenue sourced, weighted by engagement size, not count. Intro meetings are the first milestone.

90 days: outreach process and CRM in place, with a steady flow of qualified pipeline.
12 months: outbound is a predictable client channel alongside referrals

What You Bring

3 to 5 years in BD or sales, ideally selling professional services (accounting, SR&ED, investment banking, venture capital or similar) to founders
A track record of building pipeline through outbound, with the numbers to show it
Clear, concise writing
Fluency in startup finance: ARR, burn, runway, Seed to Series B
A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have: a network among tech founders and VCs, and experience as a first BD hire.

Compensation

Full-time, hybrid, based in our Yorkville office in Toronto
The role includes base and a variable salary

How to Apply

Email your resume to hiring@frankelcompany.com with "BD Manager" in the subject line.

About employer

More about this job

Responsibilities

Build a measurable outbound pipeline by identifying and researching startup prospects, conducting personalized email and LinkedIn outreach, and booking qualified introductory meetings. Own CRM processes and reporting, develop referral relationships with professional networks, and test and scale effective messaging and targeting.

Requirements

Requires 3 to 5 years of business development or sales experience, ideally selling professional services to startup founders, and a demonstrated record of building outbound pipeline. Candidates should write clearly, understand startup finance concepts such as ARR, burn, runway, and Seed-to-Series-B funding, and be self-starters; a network among tech founders and VCs or experience as a first BD hire is a plus.
