The Fraser Valley Child Development Centre is located in the beautiful Fraser Valley, close to nature and city, with many opportunities for outdoor and leisure activities. About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of HR & Operations, the Facilities & Building Operations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations, maintenance and improvement projects across FVCDC's multiple facilities. The position requires practical experience in commercial building operations, including identifying and resolving maintenance issues, coordinating contractors and service providers, completing minor repairs, and overseeing facilities projects from planning through completion.

The role also coordinates facilities-related health and safety activities, building security, emergency preparedness and preventive maintenance. Working closely with landlords, property managers, contractors and internal teams, the successful candidate will demonstrate independent judgment, technical understanding, hands-on problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing operational priorities.

Position Type: Temporary, Part Time (1 Year Term). Possibility for extension or permanent position.

Classification: Excluded

FTE: 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week) scheduled over a minimum of 4 days per week

Primary Location: Abbotsford, BC, with travel to FVCDC locations in Chilliwack and Mission as required Work Arrangement: Fully on-site

What You'll Do

Manage facilities requests through the Facilities Helpdesk/ticketing system, set priorities, arrange the required work, keep staff informed, and follow each request through to completion.
Conduct regular building and site checks to identify maintenance, repair, accessibility, and other facility concerns, and arrange follow-up as needed.
Complete minor repairs and maintenance within a safe scope of work, including furniture assembly, shelving, painting, minor wall or fixture repairs, non-structural renovations, workspace setup, and office moves.
Coordinate building repairs, maintenance, and services with landlords, property managers, contractors, and service providers, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, waste and recycling, pest control, snow and ice removal, security, alarms, and custodial coverage.
Plan and coordinate facilities projects from start to finish, including outlining the scope of work, communications, timelines, costs, materials, contractors, scheduling, site access, safety and completion of the work.
Obtain and compare quotes, follow procurement and approval requirements, track facilities budgets and project costs, and maintain invoices, receipts, warranties, and related records.
Monitor facilities projects and contracted work, address incomplete or unsatisfactory work, and identify preventive maintenance and cost-saving opportunities.
Coordinate facilities-related health and safety activities, including OH&S orientations, emergency drills, emergency preparedness, hazard follow-up, corrective actions, and completing required safety records.
Coordinate the inspection, servicing, and maintenance of first aid supplies, fire and life-safety equipment, and other facilities-related safety equipment.
Manage building access and security, including keys, fobs, access cards, alarm codes, and access changes when employees start, transfer, or leave.
Maintain facilities records, tools, supplies, equipment, and inventory, including floor plans, emergency contacts, landlord and vendor information, and organized storage areas.
Coordinate the movement and delivery of furniture, equipment, and supplies between locations, support FVCDC vehicle maintenance, coordinate facilities invoices with Finance, and escalate significant building, safety, cost, or operational concerns to the supervisor when needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certificate or diploma in Facilities Management, Building or Facility Operations, Construction, Occupational Health & Safety, Business/Operations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
Minimum two years of relevant experience in commercial or institutional building operations, facilities coordination, property maintenance or a related field. Experience supporting multiple locations is an asset.
Practical experience and ability to complete minor repairs, maintenance, and minor non-structural renovation work.
Experience with facilities budgeting, procurement, and cost tracking.
Current WorkSafeBC-recognized Basic First Aid certificate.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle for required work-related travel.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs.

Travel Requirements

Regular to occasional travel between FVCDC locations is required. Approved inter-site travel time is paid, and mileage is reimbursed in accordance with FVCDC policy.
