Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Customer Marketing, the Manager, Marketing Automation is a player-coach who leads a team of marketing automation specialists while staying hands-on in campaign delivery. The role owns our marketing technology stack as a product (roadmap, optimization, vendor partnerships and test-and-learn) and uses AI, real-time data and personalization to deliver relevant customer experiences across channels. Salesforce Marketing Cloud sits at the core of a broader, integrated martech ecosystem. We are looking for a business owner: someone accountable for adoption, performance, cost and results, as well as delivery.

Team leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of marketing automation specialists; set clear goals, provide ongoing feedback and build career paths.
  • Uphold standards for build, QA, documentation and deployment, and manage priorities and intake across stakeholders.

Collaboration and relationships

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with partners across Marketing, Analytics, Digital and IT, translating business needs into automation solutions.
  • Be a true team player and an engaged member of the broader Customer Marketing team: share knowledge, support peers’ priorities.

Hands-on delivery

  • Personally build, test and deploy high-impact journeys and campaigns; review the team’s work and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Design and scale real-time, event-driven customer journeys using behavioural, transactional and lifecycle triggers to deliver the right message through the right channel at the right moment.

AI and personalization

  • Leverage AI-driven personalization, predictive models and next-best-action capabilities to deliver relevant, individualized experiences across email, SMS, push, My Account channels, and more.

MarTech product management and experimentation

  • Own the martech roadmap: prioritize, build business cases and get the most value from the current stack.
  • Lead a culture of continuous experimentation, testing new engagement capabilities, channel integrations and customer experiences to improve conversion, retention and customer satisfaction.
  • Measure results, scale what works and present findings and recommendations to the Marketing Leadership Team.
  • Own strategic relationships with key technology partners covering renewals, licensing, roadmap influence and service accountability.

Integrations and data architecture

  • Oversee real-time triggers, API-based integrations and data exchanges between Salesforce Marketing Cloud and other platforms, including data validation and troubleshooting.

Governance and compliance

  • Protect deliverability and sender reputation, and ensure compliance with CASL, PIPEDA and internal policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of marketing automation experience, including 5+ years hands-on with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Email Studio, Contact Builder, Content Builder, Web Studio/CloudPages)
  • 2+ years of direct people leadership
  • Portfolio of campaigns and journeys you personally built and launched
  • Advanced SQL, AMPscript, HTML and CSS; SSJS an asset
  • Strong understanding of data models and relationships
  • Experience designing real-time triggers, API-based integrations, SFTP data exchanges and backfeed processes across Salesforce Marketing Cloud and external platforms, including data validation and troubleshooting
  • Proven ownership of a platform roadmap or vendor relationship with measurable results
  • Proven use of AI/ML to improve how work gets done, from campaign build and QA to analysis and personalization
  • Experience with push notifications and emerging mobile messaging channels an asset
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications (Administrator, Email Specialist, Developer or Consultant) an asset
  • Telecommunications or high-volume B2C experience an asset
  • English required; French an asset
  • This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, Ontario. You'll be expected to work regular days from our Toronto office.
