Original job description

Who We Are

Join Fresh Prep - a dynamic leader revolutionizing how Canadians experience food through sustainable meal kit delivery. As one of Canada's fastest-growing companies and a certified B Corporation, we're committed to making it easier for people to eat well and live better.

We're proud to be recognized as a workplace where innovation meets impact. Our numerous accolades - including BC's Top Employers 2025, placement on The Globe and Mail's prestigious Canada's Top Growing Companies list and recognition as one of Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies - reflect our commitment to excellence in both customer experience and employee satisfaction. Our collaborative culture brings together passionate food lovers, sustainability champions, and tech innovators who are reshaping the future of food delivery.

Who You Are

We are seeking a skilled Facilities and Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining the reliability, safety, and efficiency of both facility systems and production equipment. The technician will play a key role in minimizing downtime, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems, along with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Self Starter. You are comfortable owning a task from start to finish and you take the initiative to make continuous process improvements. You observe strict deadlines and hold yourself accountable for your deliverables.
Positive Attitude. You approach work in a cheery and optimistic way.
Strong Communicator. Your verbal and written communication skills allow you to get results across easily and quickly, in a friendly and professional manner.
Adaptable. You thrive in a changing environment and are able to pivot direction easily.

What You'll Be Doing

Troubleshoot and repair facility and equipment issues, including HVAC malfunctions, plumbing leaks, electrical faults, and conveyor or production equipment breakdowns.
Conduct regular inspections of facility electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems to proactively identify maintenance needs.
Perform preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems to minimize unplanned downtime.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests, prioritizing tasks to reduce operational disruption.
Support the installation, relocation, and commissioning of new machinery and facility systems.
Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance services.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, equipment logs, and spare parts inventory using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Follow safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols, and maintain compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Monitor and maintain building infrastructure, such as lighting, doors, loading docks, ceilings, and flooring.
Support facility audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.

What We Are Looking For

High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
Proven experience as a facilities or maintenance technician, or in a similar role.
Strong working knowledge of facility systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire safety.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing production and building equipment.
Familiarity with relevant tools, equipment, safety protocols, and CMMS software.
Additional certifications in trades, electrical, HVAC, or other technical areas are considered an asset.
Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills to prioritize tasks independently in a fast-paced environment.
Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs (~23 kg).
Ability to work in varied environments, including indoors, outdoors, and temperature-controlled spaces (coolers and freezers), as well as active construction sites during renovations.
Willingness to travel to primary and secondary site locations as required.
Ability to work a weekend schedule and flexibility to work after-hours as needed.
Ability to meet floor safety requirements, including wearing steel-toed safety boots, coats/smocks, and gloves.

What You Can Expect

A wage of $25.50 to $28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
A full-time schedule working Thursday to Monday, 8am - 4pm
Comprehensive health benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance after 90 days
Exclusive food perks that let you experience our amazing products
A culture that celebrates innovation, encourages professional development, and supports work-life balance

If you are a detail-oriented individual with a strong technical background and a passion for maintaining safe and functional facilities, we encourage you to apply for the position of Facilities and Maintenance Technician. Join our team and contribute to the smooth operation of our organization's infrastructure.

Fresh Prep is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) and prohibits discrimination of any kind. We value diversity at our company and at all job levels our goal is to be diverse, inclusive and representative of the communities we operate in. We endeavour to recruit, develop and retain the best talent from a diverse candidate pool and truly believe that diversity, equity and inclusion among our team members is vital to our success as a company. We trust that in applying for a role with us you value this as well!

Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes, but don’t necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We’d love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit.

At Fresh Prep, we work with a variety of ingredients, including common allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, and dairy. Whether you're in one of our corporate functions or within the production facility, you may be exposed to these ingredients. If you have concerns - especially around allergens or meat - please let us know during the hiring process.
