Original job description

Our Winnipeg facility located in the Fort Garry Industrial Park has an opportunity for a Payroll Clerk to join our HR team in our Head Office. This is ideal for a candidate who has 1 to 2 years experience in Payroll processing for both hourly and salaried employees and who is seeking more responsibilities and challenges, or an opportunity to build on their knowledge and concepts learned from their PCP designation and/or beginning to work towards their PLP professional status. Growth in payroll will only be limited by their desire to be exposed to more concepts.

The Payroll Clerk will be directly responsible for payroll and benefits administration, attendance tracking and maintenance, onboarding/offboarding, front-line queries - all managed from our HRIS system – ADP Workforce Now. Additional tasks to support the team may include company social activities, workers’ compensation, and other projects in HR.

As a Payroll Clerk, you will be responsible for:

Completing full-cycle payroll processing for up to 200 Canadian & USA employees (hourly and salaried) using ADP Workforce Now, including year-end processes such as T4 preparation.
Coordinating onboarding and offboarding processes, including system setup, ROE preparation, vacation and medical entitlement including final pay calculations within ADP and using external tools such as Microsoft Excel.
Coordinating attendance tracking, leave management, and compliance with HR policies and procedures.
Administering all aspects of Canadian & USA benefits programs, including monthly reconciliations with GL breakdowns to Accounting for group benefits, group pension & 401K plans, and EFAP etc.
Responding to employee inquires related to payroll, benefits and general HR matters, offering front-line support and day-to-day engagement.
Ensuring accurate and up-to-date employee records and documentation via data entry and maintenance within the HRIS – ADP Workforce Now.
Assisting with HR administrative duties such as employment letters, IT setup/termination requests, processing criminal record checks, and other auditory checks.
Contributing to HR and operational projects, employee engagement initiatives, and company social activities.

To be successful in this role, you bring the following skills and experience:

You have experience with web-based payrolls systems and payroll software.
Direct practical experience with ADP Workforce Now will be considered an asset.
You are proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word).
You will have practical experience using intermediate to advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP).
You have knowledge of Canadian payroll laws. Exposure to federal payroll terms/rules would be an asset.
You have strong customer service, proactive engagement, and team collaboration.
You have the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in handling confidential information within and outside the organization.
You have effective communication with employees, vendors, and the public.
You are customer service-oriented with the ability to prioritize urgent tasks.
You are skilled at balancing multiple demands and maintaining attention to detail.
You have post-secondary studies in human resources or payroll administration is considered an asset.
Attainment or working toward the attainment of the PCP or PLP designations will be a large asset.
