About the opportunity
An established automotive metal stamping manufacturer is hiring a Controls Specialist Industrial Electrician to continuously improve automated systems and increase equipment efficiency in high-throughput operations, alongside preventative and reactive maintenance. The role opened through the retirement of a long-tenured electrician who grew into the controls side over many years - a genuinely specialized position combining a licensed trade with real controls depth.
What you'll do
- Provide maintenance support across all areas, keeping machines and facilities running safely and efficiently
- Improve electrical processes to minimize production downtime
- Safely install and maintain electrical machinery and equipment
- Perform repairs to plant support systems - hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, drives, bearings, and gears
- Read, interpret, and alter electrical schematics for troubleshooting
- Apply process automation, PLC programming, HMI improvements, and robotic operations
- Support maintenance management and provide guidance to the Electrical and Automation teams
- Contribute to new project engineering and controls programming
- Ensure functional design specifications are delivered on time and on budget
- Apply lean-manufacturing principles to improve process capability, reduce costs, and increase capacity
What you need
- 442A or 309A ticket
- Post-secondary education in engineering, instrumentation, process control, or electronics
- 3+ years' relevant experience in industrial process automation
- Certified, or able to be certified, to operate an aerial lift
- Ability to learn and retain robot programming and PLC knowledge
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Able to prepare technical documentation - shop drawings, operating and training manuals, equipment reports, employee assessments
- Able to lead and mentor junior associates
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; detail-oriented
- Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
Nice to have
- 10 years' relevant experience in industrial process automation
- Degree or diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
