Mechanical Manager

Employment Type:

Full-time

Location:

Company Overview:

GagaMuller is a Project Management Consultancy with specific divisions focused on providing Project Management, Cost Management, and Digital services to owner organization within the construction industry.

With a proven track record working alongside global technology leaders and data centre developers, we combine local expertise with global standards to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.

At GagaMuller, we empower people and organizations to build with data.

Role Description:

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Manager to join GagaMuller on a hyperscale data centre project. Acting as the owner’s representative, you will provide client-side leadership and oversight of the mechanical scope, coordinating the General Contractor (GC), design consultants, specialist contractors, OEMs, commissioning teams and the wider supply chain. You will protect the client’s interests across design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and handover, with a strong focus on safety, quality, program, resilience, compliance and operational readiness.

With a market-leading client base and the opportunity to take the lead on strategic commissions and high-profile projects, this is an exciting time to join the business unit and grow a career with GagaMuller.

The Opportunity

You will lead client-side oversight of the complete mechanical workstream for a hyperscale data centre. The scope includes cooling generation and distribution, heat rejection, pumps, pipework, water treatment, ventilation, pressurization, drainage, fuel systems and associated BMS controls. You will coordinate design development, long-lead procurement, installation, flushing, balancing, functional testing, integrated systems testing and handover, ensuring the GC and supply chain deliver safe, resilient, maintainable and compliant systems in line with the client’s requirements.

Responsibilities

1. Scope & Delivery Management

  • Lead owner-side oversight of the complete mechanical scope from design development through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Review the basis of design, calculations, specifications, equipment schedules, technical submittals, shop drawings, method statements and vendor data against client requirements.
  • Monitor long-lead equipment, factory testing, logistics, installation, testing and commissioning milestones; challenge variance and drive credible recovery actions.
  • Oversee cooling generation and distribution, heat rejection, pumps, pipework, water treatment, ventilation, pressurization, drainage, fuel systems and associated controls.
  • Undertake site assurance reviews to verify installation quality, system cleanliness, access, maintainability, configuration, sequencing and readiness for commissioning.

2. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the client’s primary discipline representative, providing clear technical advice and recommendations to the project leadership team.
  • Coordinate the GC, design consultants, trade contractors, OEMs, commissioning agents, operations teams and wider supply chain.
  • Lead or contribute to client, design, construction, vendor and commissioning meetings, ensuring decisions and actions have clear owners and deadlines.
  • Maintain constructive working relationships while independently challenging delivery partners and holding them accountable for agreed outcomes.
  • Escalate material safety, technical, commercial, program or quality issues early, with a clear assessment of impact and recommended action.

3. Risk & Compliance Management

  • Maintain oversight of discipline risks, RFIs, design changes, non-conformances, defects, constraints and technical decisions through to verified close-out.
  • Confirm that works comply with the client brief, approved design, project specifications, applicable codes, standards and statutory requirements.
  • Review method statements, inspection and test plans, quality records and commissioning documentation for completeness and suitability.
  • Identify interface, constructability, maintainability and operational risks early and drive proportionate mitigation with the GC and supply chain.
  • Promote a strong safety and quality culture, intervening and escalating where delivery does not meet required standards.

4. Reporting & Documentation

  • Provide accurate, concise progress reporting covering design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, risk, quality and key decisions.
  • Maintain clear action, decision, risk, change, RFI, defect and interface records, ensuring owners and due dates are visible and actively managed.
  • Review GC and supply-chain reports, challenge unsupported assumptions and verify that forecast dates and recovery actions are credible.
  • Prepare client-facing technical summaries, meeting inputs and recommendations that enable timely, informed decision-making.
  • Ensure as-built information, test certification, O&M manuals, training records and asset data are complete and ready for handover.

5. Collaboration & Integration

  • Integrate the discipline scope with CSA, controls, fire, security, ICT, commissioning and operational-readiness workstreams.
  • Coordinate spatial, access, logistics, sequencing, controls and commissioning interfaces across design and construction teams.
  • Work closely with commercial and program teams to assess change, delay, procurement and recovery implications.
  • Support commissioning and operations teams with system familiarization, readiness reviews, training and handover planning.
  • Share lessons learned and contribute to consistent client governance, assurance and delivery standards across the project.

Qualifications

  • Degree, diploma or recognized technical/trade qualification in the relevant engineering or building-services discipline.
  • Relevant professional membership or chartered status is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety, quality assurance, design management, commissioning and handover processes.
  • Confident user of digital design-review, document-control, issue-management and reporting platforms.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical matters to senior client stakeholders.

What Experience We Are Looking For

  • Substantial experience delivering complex, mission-critical or large-scale infrastructure projects; hyperscale data centre experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrable client-side, developer, consultancy or owner’s representative experience, including management of GC and supply-chain performance.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces, long-lead equipment, specialist vendors and integrated commissioning.
  • A track record of identifying risk early, making sound technical recommendations and driving actions to closure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge constructively while maintaining stakeholder alignment.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage.
  • RRSP Contribution.
  • Generous PTO allowance.
  • Collaborative team environment that values teamwork and open communication.
  • Mentoring and professional development opportunities.
