Original job description

Archived listing. The details below describe a past opening.

Gandeeva Therapeutics Inc. is a biotechnology company located in Metro Vancouver, BC that seeks to harness the transformative power of cryo-EM technology to design better drugs. Our methods overcome limitations in the use of X-ray crystallography for drug design and avoid discovery dead ends that can arise from the use of computational docking methods in the absence of experimental validation. Our automated workflows enable determination of relevant 3D structural information at the highest possible resolutions in combination with innovative biochemical and biophysical methods to explore low-data targets, membrane proteins and protein complexes. Gandeeva seeks to achieve transformative societal impact on public health by revolutionizing drug discovery and by lowering the risk of late-stage clinical failures.

We have built an interdisciplinary and innovative team with biologists, chemists, microscopists, engineers, and software developers who work closely together in state-of-the-art facilities that provide a stimulating environment reflecting our inclusive and welcoming culture.

We are seeking a Scientist I, Protein Biophysics and Biochemistry to support our dynamic Protein Biophysics and Biochemistry teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement biochemical (eg. HTRF) and biophysical assays (eg. SPR, BLI and related methods) to study the function and binding of various protein targets
  • Screen compounds in optimized assays to identify and validate hits for future development
  • Execute gene-to-protein workflows to express, purify and characterize challenging proteins
  • Engage in technological development to advance screening and discovery workflows
  • Support cryo-EM specimen preparation and data collection as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required and as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MSc with 3+ years of relevant industrial experience or PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline
  • Proficient in conceptualizing, developing and optimizing biochemical, biophysical and/or cellular assays to achieve robust metrics and readouts
  • Expertise in biophysical methods to measure protein:ligand or protein:protein interactions (e.g. SPR, BLI, DSF, etc.)
  • Expertise in maintaining and recombinant protein expression in mammalian, insect, and microbial systems
  • Expertise in recombinant DNA techniques and expression construct optimization for high-quality recombinant protein production
  • Familiarity with induced proximity modalities such as molecular glues is an asset
  • Expertise with cell culture and cellular assays is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organization, critical thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with scientific and non-scientific personnel
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Must demonstrate and work to a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics
  • Must be an independent, self starter who is also an excellent team player with the flexibility to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment

Gandeeva Total Compensation:

The base salary hiring range is $90,000 to $110,000 with final job level placement and salary to be commensurate with candidate qualifications. Placement within this range includes many considerations including but not limited to education, knowledge, skills, and related experience. Our total compensation package also includes eligibility for stock options and performance bonus, and a matching retirement savings or TFSA plan. Employees are provided with comprehensive health, dental, vision, travel insurance, short- and long-term disability and life insurance coverage as well as a confidential Employee Assistance Program.

We value a healthy work life balance and provide a flexible work environment with paid annual vacation and sick days, additional paid time off throughout the year and a company-wide holiday closure at year end. Employees are encouraged to grow and develop through our professional development initiatives including continuing education, tuition reimbursement and attendance at industry training courses and conferences. Our active Social Committee organizes a variety of on and off-site activities where we can enjoy the company of our colleagues and friends in a warm, relaxing environment.

Gandeeva Therapeutics Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. Come join us in beautiful Metro Vancouver!
