A Unique Opportunity

The Garth Homer Society is a charitable nonprofit supporting adults with developmental disabilities in the Greater Victoria Area of BC. We are currently in development for the Garth Homer Centre for Belonging, an innovative multi-use development that is the cornerstone of the Nigel Valley Neighbourhood project. As part of our capital campaign, we will be offering up to $10 million in community bonds to help finance the project.

The Community Investment & Project Associate position is unique in that we are looking to tailor the position to match the skills and talents of the desired candidate. There are two components to this position. First, we are looking for an organized, personable, and motivated team member to help connect prospective community bond purchasers with this opportunity. And second, we are looking for someone who also brings a complimentary skillset that supports the development of the Centre for Belonging project. This could be experience in marketing, public relations, fundraising, business, or any other contribution that would compliment our development team.

Position Overview - Community Investment & Project Associate

Approximately 50% of the role will focus on supporting the implementation of the community bond campaign, working closely with GHS leadership, the Foundation and external advisors. This will include connecting with prospective bond purchasers, explaining the project and approved bond information, responding to general inquiries, and organizing outreach meetings, presentations and events. The successful candidate will also support the subscription and onboarding process, maintain accurate records, coordinate purchaser communications, and track outreach activity and sales progress. An important part of the role will be building and maintaining strong investor relationships through regular communication, financial reporting and project updates, while fostering trust, accountability and long-term investment. The remaining 50% of the role will be tailored to the successful candidate's skills, experience and the evolving needs of the Centre for Belonging. This may include marketing and communications, such as campaign content, newsletters, digital outreach and promotional materials, as well as public relations and community engagement. Other potential areas include finance and administration, business and project coordination, research, funding support, operational planning and stakeholder relationships. There will also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to propose additional areas where their skills and experience could contribute to the project.

Required qualifications includes the following:

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence speaking to individuals and groups.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities.
  • Comfort learning new information and explaining it clearly; experience in sales, fundraising, customer relations, marketing, finance, business or project coordination would be valuable.
  • Minimum of five years' experience working with community bonds or within a financial institution in a role involving similar financial, investment or client relationship responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with common office applications and willingness to learn contact-management and reporting systems.
  • Good judgement, initiative and a collaborative approach.
  • An interest in community impact, inclusion and the mission of Garth Homer Society.
  • A related diploma or degree related to finance or investing may be an asset, but equivalent experience is welcome.

Working Relationships and Support:

This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, the Garth Homer Foundation, the finance team and external community bond advisors. Technical investment matters, offering documentation and regulatory compliance will remain under the oversight of appropriately qualified professionals. The role does not provide individualized investment advice.
