About Gastops: Moving You since 1979
Over the last 47 years, Gastops has built a robust business which is recognized worldwide for its innovative contributions to equipment health management in the aviation, energy, marine, industrial and transportation industries. Gastops’ products and services add value throughout the life cycle of complex critical equipment from the design stage through to in-service operations and support. We design, manufacture, and support advanced equipment sensing and analysis products, including on-line oil debris sensors, torque measurement sensors, turbine blade health sensors, and at-line oil analysis systems.
The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for supporting the effectiveness, compliance, and continual improvement of Gastops’ Quality Management System (QMS). The position independently leads and executes assigned quality assurance activities, including internal audits, corrective action oversight, supplier quality activities, QMS documentation and improvement initiatives, and quality performance analysis.
Working collaboratively with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, QC Inspectors, and other process owners, the Quality Assurance Specialist provides independent quality oversight, evaluates compliance with applicable QMS, customer, regulatory, and contractual requirements, identifies systemic issues and improvement opportunities, and promotes a culture of quality, product safety, human factors awareness, risk-based thinking, and continual improvement.
The position reports to the Quality Director.
What You’ll Do:
Quality Management System & Document Control
- Support the maintenance and effectiveness of the AS9100/ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, working with process owners to ensure applicable QMS requirements are understood and effectively implemented.
- Review and coordinate the control of QMS documentation and records, ensuring they remain current, consistent, and compliant with applicable QMS, customer, regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements.
- Administer and oversee the corrective action system, including initiation, tracking, follow-up, escalation, and closure; evaluate root cause and corrective action responses based on objective evidence and verify implementation and effectiveness.
- Compile, analyze, and report quality performance data and QMS metrics to support ongoing performance monitoring, Management Review, and informed decision-making, and track resulting actions through completion.
- Support the identification, documentation, retention, and availability of organizational knowledge, and promote awareness and implementation of applicable requirements related to product safety, human factors, operational risk, counterfeit parts prevention, and control of nonconforming outputs.
- Identify systemic issues, recurring trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and recommend appropriate improvements to QMS processes, documentation, controls, and performance monitoring.
- Plan and conduct assigned internal audits in accordance with the approved audit program and applicable AS9100/ISO 9001:2015 requirements, maintaining objectivity and impartiality while establishing audit scope and criteria, evaluating objective evidence, and documenting results.
- Assess conformity and identify nonconformities, systemic weaknesses, risks, and improvement opportunities against applicable QMS, customer, regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements, and communicate audit results to process owners and management.
- Support external audits and assessments, including AS9100/ISO 9001 surveillance and recertification audits, customer audits, and regulatory assessments, through readiness activities, evidence gathering, and coordination of assigned auditor requests.
- Track audit findings and associated corrective actions through closure, and analyze audit results for recurring issues, systemic trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor and analyze supplier quality performance, including nonconformities, corrective actions, trends, and risks, and provide Quality input to supplier performance reviews and improvement activities.
- Manage assigned Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), including evaluation of responses, follow-up, escalation, and verification of corrective action effectiveness.
- Provide Quality input into supplier quality clauses, purchase-order quality requirements, supplier-related risks, and other appropriate supplier quality controls.
- Support Supply Chain in the quality evaluation, approval, qualification, and periodic re-evaluation of suppliers, including quality capability assessments, QMS documentation reviews, and supplier audits.
- Participate in or conduct assigned supplier audits and supplier-quality improvement activities and recommend appropriate actions when adverse supplier quality trends or significant risks are identified.
What You Should Bring:
- Relevant post-secondary education in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Science, Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant practical experience.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible Quality Assurance experience in aerospace, defence, aviation, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience working within an AS9100, ISO 9001, or comparable formal QMS, with working knowledge of applicable quality-management and risk-based principles.
- Practical experience with internal auditing, corrective action, root cause analysis, and effectiveness verification, including structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone/Ishikawa.
- Working knowledge and practical experience in supplier quality, including supplier performance, corrective action, quality documentation, supplier evaluation, and/or supplier auditing.
- Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across functions.
- Ability to appropriately challenge and escalate decisions or conditions that could result in unacceptable quality, compliance, product safety, or customer risk.
- Ability to meet and maintain applicable security, Controlled Goods Program (CGP), export-control/ITAR, and security-clearance requirements associated with the position.
- Internal Auditor, Lead Auditor, ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or equivalent recognized quality/auditor training or certification.
