Original job description

We don’t just fix issues - we build systems that prevent them. Gauthier Business Technologies is a process-driven, modern MSP delivering fast, reliable, business-focused IT support built on long-term client relationships. We’re hiring a Senior IT Specialist - a broad, senior technical role spanning project delivery, networking, escalation, mentorship, and technology alignment. This is not a help-desk seat; it’s for someone ready to own complex work across our client base and raise the technical standard of the team.

This role suits someone who works well independently, takes pride in quality, and would rather build systems than fight fires.

What You’ll Do

Projects

Scope, plan, and deliver client IT projects end to end - cloud migrations, server and network refreshes, new-site builds, and security rollouts
Produce project documentation, runbooks, and as-builts; coordinate schedules and client communication
Partner with the Service Manager on resourcing and timelines

Networking

Design, implement, and maintain client network infrastructure - firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, routing and switching, and Wi-Fi
Work hands-on across enterprise networking platforms, coordinating structured cabling where needed
Troubleshoot complex connectivity and performance issues across sites

Support Escalation

Act as the senior escalation point for Tier 2/3 incidents, owning complex issues through full resolution
Diagnose across Microsoft 365, cloud, Windows, networking, and mobile environments
Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation in our PSA and IT documentation systems

Mentoring & Process Development

Mentor and develop junior technicians, sharing knowledge and raising the technical bar
Develop and document SOPs, standards, and best practices, and drive continuous improvement
Identify and apply AI and automation to improve service delivery, documentation, and efficiency
Reduce recurring incidents through root-cause analysis and process fixes

Technology Alignment

Conduct alignment reviews of client environments against internal standards, identifying gaps and risks
Track lifecycle and roadmap needs, surfacing remediation and upgrade opportunities
Contribute technical input to QBRs and client technology planning

What You Bring

Core experience

5+ years in IT, MSP experience strongly preferred, with a mix of support, project, and infrastructure work
Proven ability to independently own complex technical issues and deliver projects
Strong client-facing experience in professional environments

Technical expertise

Microsoft 365, cloud, and Windows administration
Networking design and implementation: firewalls, VPNs, LAN/WAN, VLANs, routing and switching, and Wi-Fi
Modern endpoint management and identity/access administration
Experience with PSA and RMM platforms
Backup and BCDR administration - verification, testing, and restores
Mobile device support (iOS and Android)

Bonus points for

Experience applying AI tools to IT work - automation, scripting, documentation, and troubleshooting
Scripting and automation (PowerShell or similar)
Endpoint security, conditional access, and data loss prevention
Project management experience or certification; ITIL familiarity

Professional skills

Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis; organized project execution; clear communication with non-technical users; calm under pressure; detail-oriented and process-driven

Why Join Gauthier Business Technologies

A structured, process-driven MSP - not constant firefighting
Clear expectations, accountability, and systems that support your success
A team that values doing things the right way, not just the fast way
Opportunity to mentor others and influence technical standards
Ongoing investment in training, certifications, and professional growth

Compensation And Benefits

$80,000–$95,000 CAD per year, based on experience and demonstrated capability
Performance-based growth aligned with skill development and contribution
Extended health and dental benefits
Paid certifications and technical training
Three weeks vacation plus paid sick leave (BC employment standards)
Mileage reimbursement for onsite client travel
Company-provided laptop and tools

Success in This Role Looks Like

Client projects delivered on time and to standard
Complex escalations resolved efficiently and effectively
Client networks and environments aligned to internal standards
Junior technicians leveling up through mentorship
Stronger systems, documentation, and operational standards

Requirements

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable transportation (regular onsite client work)
Willingness to participate in a shared after-hours / on-call rotation
Legally authorized to work in Canada

Hiring Process

Initial screening call
Technical interview
Final interview and culture-fit discussion
Reference checks

If you want a role where you can take ownership, deliver projects, and raise the technical standard of a team focused on quality and continuous improvement, we encourage you to apply.
