The Lead Application Engineer is a technical leader within the engineering team. You will contribute to the commercial strategy through their technical and economic understanding of the high-voltage substation market and will serve as the technical point of reference throughout the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) phase.

Main Responsibilities

Act as a technical point of reference throughout the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) phase and develop technical solutions for high-voltage substations and electrical grids.
Responsible for the accuracy of technical proposals, including equipment specifications; the development and review of single-line diagrams (SLD, protection, AC/DC), layout drawings, AC/DC load sizing. Also responsible for defining clarifications and exceptions, quantifying deliverables, defining the scope of work, and estimating engineering hours, installation, and testing/commissioning costs based on client specifications and standards such as CSA, IEEE, ANSI, and IEC.
Conduct preliminary studies for high-voltage substations to verify the suitability of the specifications and the design of the proposed solutions.
Provide technical support to create subcontractors and electrical equipment request for quotes packages.
Augment the commercial team for customer presentations of technical capabilities and proposals.
Design and implement methodologies, templates, and libraries that provide the most accurate cost estimates with the least amount of engineering effort for a given customer scope.
Write technical specifications for equipment and services, working with PM’s & Sourcing to manage quotes and vendor responses.
Work with the Proposal Manager, AE team, and assigned multi-discipline engineers to provide up to full “Engineer, Procure, & Construct” estimates for conventional utility, industrial, & renewable substations, P&C and equipment programs, Systems & Communications projects, and BOP projects including FACTS, HVDC Segments
Deliver high technical quality of GEV’s proposals including processes & programs that make the proposals more accepted (compliant or clarified), effective, and cost competitive to the customer with reduced overall-performance risk. Proposal must be clear, provide customer value, and demonstrate how GEV meets their specification requirement.
Possesses a basic understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies.
Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
Works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree.
At least 5 years of experience in design, engineering, specification development, cost estimation, and construction of electrical substations, as well as in power transmission or generation projects for the energy sector (generation, distribution, transmission).
At least 2 years of experience in technical proposal writing and tender management.
Up to 20% travel (may include international travel) and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies.

Desired Characteristics

Experience with large and complex High Voltage Substation Project proposal development.
Experience with Full turnkey HV Substation solutions, EPC, EPCI including Civil works.
Passion to win--constantly providing ways to improve hit rate. Ability to develop the technical strategy after ensuring customer’s CTQs are understood and the outcome desired by the customer is defined.
Basic expertise in the design of Power Transmission and Distribution equipment & systems, electrical substation, and protection devices. Knowledge of equipment installation, construction, and field operations.
Experience with (and estimating the effort for) engineering design packages including drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of materials.
Experience with power system studies and the application of MV/HV/EHV/UHV gear.
Knowledge of project estimating methods and cost engineering theory.
Knowledge of HV/EHV substation physical/outdoor design and construction including foundation design and site preparation.
Knowledge of substation protection & control schemes, SCADA communication systems, factory and site testing, commissioning methods, and maintenance.
Construction, field testing and commissioning experience.
Knowledge of and experience using Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE) & American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and codes such as the National Electric Code (NEC) and NESC.
Working knowledge of power systems automation equipment, SCADA applications and communication applications.
Preferred PE license in the United States/Canada

Réaliser les études de base relatives aux postes haute tension, nécessaires pour vérifier la pertinence des spécifications et de la conception des solutions proposées.
Fournir un soutien technique pour les dossiers d’appel d’offres destinés aux sous-traitants et aux fournisseurs d’équipements électriques.
Soutenir l’équipe commerciale lors des présentations techniques aux clients.
Développer des méthodologies, des modèles et des bibliothèques afin d’améliorer la précision et l’efficacité des estimations de coûts.
Rédiger les spécifications techniques des équipements et services et collaborer avec les chefs de projet et l’équipe Approvisionnement, pour gérer les demandes de prix et les réponses des fournisseurs.
Collaborer avec le responsable des offres (Proposal Manager), l’équipe d’ingénierie des applications et les ingénieurs multidisciplinaires afin de développer des estimations Ingénierie, approvisionnement et construction (EPC) pour des projets de postes électriques, de protection et contrôle (P&C), de systèmes et communications, de Balance of Plant (BOP), de FACTS et de HVDC.
Garantir une qualité technique élevée des offres de GEV, en mettant en œuvre des processus et des programmes qui favorisent l'acceptation des offres (conformité ou clarifications), leur efficacité et leur compétitivité-coût pour le client, tout en réduisant les risques liés à la performance globale. L'offre doit être claire, apporter de la valeur au client et démontrer comment GEV répond aux exigences de son cahier des charges.
Posséder une compréhension de base des marchés concernés et de la valeur économique pour le client, afin de contribuer à l'élaboration de stratégies gagnantes.

Qualifications Requises

Baccalauréat en génie électrique ou diplôme technique équivalent.
Au moins 5 ans d'expérience dans la conception, les études, l'élaboration de spécifications, l'estimation des coûts et la construction de postes électriques, ainsi que dans des projets de transport ou de production d'énergie pour le secteur de l'énergie (production, distribution, transport).
Au moins 2 ans d'expérience dans la rédaction d'offres techniques et la gestion d'appels d'offres.
Disponibilité pour effectuer jusqu’à 20 % de déplacements, incluant potentiellement des déplacements internationaux.
Maîtrise du français et de l’anglais, à l’oral et à l’écrit.
