Original job description

Hi, we are ecobee.

ecobee introduced the world’s first smart Wi-Fi thermostat to help millions of consumers save money, conserve energy, and bring home automation into their lives. That was just the beginning. We continue our pursuit to create technology that brings peace of mind into the home and allows people to focus on the moments that matter most. We take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.

In 2021, ecobee became a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems. Generac introduced the first affordable backup generator and later created the category of automatic home standby generator. The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment.

Why we love to do what we do:

We’re helping build the world of tomorrow with solutions that improve everyday life while making a positive impact on the planet. Our products and services work in harmony to provide comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind for millions of homes and businesses. While we’re proud of what we’ve done so far, there’s still a lot we can do - and you can be part of it.

Join our extraordinary team.

We're a rapidly growing global tech company headquartered in Canada, in the heart of downtown Toronto, with an office in Leeds, UK, and remote ecopeeps in the US. We get to work with some of North America and UK's leading professionals. Our colleagues are proud to bring their authentic selves to work, confident that what we do is grounded in a greater purpose. We’re always looking for curious, talented, and passionate people to join our team.

Who’ll You Be Joining:

You’ll be joining an energetic group of Finance professionals! We are a close and collaborative team, working together to ensure our finance operations run smoothly and that we provide actionable insights to business leaders across the company. We love to leverage each other's skills to solve problems, learn, and create efficiencies, and we have fun along the way. We are looking for a driven, self-directed individual who is comfortable multitasking, driving change, building relationships with stakeholders across the organization, and working in a fast-paced environment.

The Opportunity:

Our finance team is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst reporting to the Manager FP&A to join the team. You are an experienced finance professional who works independently and builds trusted relationships with business leaders. In this role, you will own FP&A deliverables for the areas of the business you support and partner directly with functional teams outside Finance, from budgeting and forecasting to variance analysis and cost management. Your insight and recommendations will add value to those teams and support ecobee’s financial success and decision-making.

This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration, and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for your assigned areas of the business, working with minimal supervision and ensuring timely delivery to all ecobee management and corporate parent stakeholder groups
Prepare analytical review over the income statement, balance sheet, and business KPIs as compared to previous month, budget, forecast and prior period
Contribute to the analysis and preparation of Product and Channel P&Ls for quarterly Management Business Reviews (MBRs)
Proactively monitor and report on the company’s financial performance against management KPIs, flagging trends and risks early and recommending actions to business partners
Develop reports and dashboards in the company’s financial planning and analysis platform (Workday Adaptive Planning), and lead user training to enhance stakeholder engagement and adoption
Update and maintain the data and models in the company’s FP&A platform to ensure timely and accurate reporting
Identify and lead opportunities to automate and streamline existing monthly, quarterly, and annual processes by leveraging AI tools, using your own judgment to prioritize improvements that free up time for higher-value partnership opportunities
Serve as the finance business partner to assigned departments outside Finance (such as product, design, and engineering), building trusted relationships with functional leaders and understanding their goals, priorities, and constraints
Partner with other departments to bring new tools, data, and approaches that sharpen the recommendations we provide across the company, proactively surfacing efficiency opportunities, risks, and influencing business decisions in ways that add measurable value to the teams you support
Own ad hoc reporting, analysis, and cross-functional requests from start to finish, anticipating partner needs and prioritizing with minimal direction

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis or a related finance role at a mid-size private or public company
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
Experience within a manufacturing or consumer electronics company considered a strong asset
Experience with cloud-based ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar platforms
Proficiency with cube-based FP&A platforms such as Adaptive Planning (or Prophix, Vena, Anaplan, Oracle Hyperion, etc.)
Understanding of extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes in the context of data models maintained within an FP&A platform is preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a SharePoint environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure, including meeting public company reporting timelines
Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leaders, by turning financial analysis into clear recommendations
Strong financial modelling skills and ability to translate numerous data points into actionable and easy to understand insights for business partners
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge or exposure to US GAAP or IFRS is an added benefit
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to complete a background and credit check

Just so you know: The hired candidate will be required to complete a background check

What happens after you apply:

Application review. It will happen. By an actual person in Talent Acquisition. As we sometimes get upwards of 100+ applications for some roles, it can take a few days, but every applicant can expect a note regarding their application status.

Interview Process:

A 30-minute phone/video call with a member of Talent Acquisition
A 1-hour virtual interview with the Hiring Manager: expect technical, behavioural, and situational questions.
Final Interview with cross functional members of the hiring team.
